A general rant on the topic of Harley shift linkages.  They cost foo tucking much.  These damned things are just a rod with a couple of heim joints, a bit of machining to make them pretty and a chrome plate.  Yet the stupid things are sold for $150.00 and higher; sometimes a lot higher.

So much of the bike stuff is all but untenably expensive for what we're actually buying.  Shift rods have always been my pet peeve though.  They aren't just expensive.  They are dumb nuts expensive.

By the way, that one pictured above with the eagle's head followed by the words Screamin' Eagle; ummmm, how much is that thing anyway?

2lane,
I got it on ebay a couple of months ago for $150. The website is:http://gordonshdparts.safeshopper.com/ , but I have not seen this exact one on there again!  I know it's expensive but my OCD got the better of me!  John

Thanks John.  That's a slick looking part.  Even with OCD thrown in it's probably cool enough to be worth the cost  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .

Two,
The one on my bike now is $169 from the stealer.............total a$$ screwing.  It's polished stainless.......cut the thing,  polish it and put it on the shelve.......another one of the MoCo's thank-you and bend over's.  They put that piece of crap (stock shifter) on the bike because they know that if they get 15% of the buyers to buy a new one......it translates to 7 figures+ to them.... a look at the SEEG's..........silver and chrome everything......not the freakin" starter....in the book,  they charge $100 more for the chrome HT starter,  it costs them $35 and they don't include it because it makes them money.....once again,  the only company in the world that can screw their customers on a regular basis......and we keep coming back. (D means a hundred dollars)  and the dealers are worse than the MoCo....

Absolutely Matt.  Our SEEGs were filled with that kind of stuff.  All the ugly stock bolts sticking in covers that, if you bought them as accessories, would come with the chrome bolts (that we never got).  The starter always pissed me off because the price difference to them was so little but it's a frakking expensive change for us.  It's annoying as hell to just look at it and realize that their plan with forethought still involves doing things that will force you to nickel and dime yourself at the parts counter over and over and over again.

You guys are making me feel so good about LD starting out as a stock Road Glide. I would be up around $50k by now if I'd have started with a Screamin Eagle Ultra Classic. First thing would have gone out the window would have been the Ninja Turtle hump on the back- -there goes $2,500.Then the pipes, breather and SERT- -another $2,500 and we haven't even gotten into OCD land yet. Figure $5k easy for OCD items. If I had to reproduce Elvis it would be close to $60k. Don't even want to think about that.

Two,
That's what the MoCo has done for years...........buy the bike (offer parts that don't fit.....well, better said...they fit,  but everything VOIDS the warranty) and screw the poor bastard that bought the prick.  Deal  with the leaks....warranty......freak no!!!  It won't start.....must be a customer issue.  The motors blown..........well,  it'll take $1500 to fix.....and  then your factory warr. is done (just because you changed the pipes and made it run like a bike should run).  When this bike is done.......I'll go BMW or Victory....they offer better deals than HD.  And the Toyota thing is coming for the American bike thing too.....been coming for some time  I love  Harleys,  but I love to ride.............the best deal will get my $$ in the future.   Case and point,  Bought Fords ALL my life,  next 4 wheele vehilce will be a toyota (no matter what).  I'm willing to change....The MoCo should realize this and take action now to prevent loosing customers...Wake up Milwaukee.......or loose customers.
