Well I finally picked up the new CVO SG on Saturday, rode the 100-odd miles back home with no issues other than stalling it as I came to a halt at a junction which I put down to me maybe being ham-fisted whilst adjusting to the clutch and throttle feel on the new bike.

However, during 90 miles of commuting today it's faltered and died several times - each time whilst moving with clutch in and throttle closed - requiring me to maintain balance whilst the bike was rolling and thumb the starter.  This happened 3 times as I negotiated traffic in the first few hundred yards away from work with the engine barely warm but also several times 40-odd miles later when the motor was fully warm when stuck in single lane traffic coming up to some lights. A couple of times it spat back.

So I'll be phoning the dealer straight away tomorrow but posting here in case anybody has had the same issue and found a root cause I can check easily for.

Bike is still stock at the moment.

Other than this glitch I'm really enjoying this thing.

That's gotta go back to the dealer, not sure I would call that a glitch!

Yes that has happened to mine. A 2015 Ultra CVO. Stalled just as it comes to stop. Like you I first thought it was my handling but def not the case. Took it back to the dealer and they could not find anything. Not done it since though.

No fault codes registering.

No obvious cause.

Did feel as though maybe it was one cylinder affected rather than both as occasionally the bike would stumble them pick up again.

Dealer had had similar issue on an older bike which was resolved by swapping out the spark plugs so they tried that on mine and it seems to have cured the problem.

It sounds like maybe the clutch is not releasing completly. Have you checked that there are not any clutch master cylinder recalls open on your bike?

Sorry should have been clearer. Problem has been fixed by swapping the spark  plugs.

The dealer was stumped but recalled a similar issue on another bike that was resolved by changing the plugs.

There was no discernible clutch drag and that's not what it felt like.  It felt as though one cylinder wasn't firing but only when at low revs,  moving, throttle closed clutch in.  There was no obvious misbehaviour at any other time.

Having said that I would say that the bike is now also pulling better at low speeds.

So, HD has found a source for "fake" Champion spark plugs now?? Whats next, plastic crankcases??

My bike does this even after new plugs. Pipe and tune helped but didn't cure the problem.

Should have updated this - apologies!

I did get a further recurrence on a warm day with the motor hot following quick visit to a shop.

I'd already spoken to the Service Manager about whether I going ahead with a Stage 1 would complicate any further fault diagnosis and he told me thatit wouldn't but that if I did have a dodgy sensor somewhere that attempts at autotuning could give some weird results.

So I went ahead with stage 1 - K&N drop in filter, Fullsac headers, Supertrapp Fatshots, Sepst basemap and a few autotuning runs.

This does seem to have cured the problem completely - cold or hot, dry or wet the bike has not suffered with faltering/stalling.

Cheers

I hope this has cured it for you. Mine continues even after pipe and tune, and new plugs. So far no one can find the cause. Been back to the dealer and to an independent shop.

Done more than 2000 miles since the stage 1 and not seen the problem again so (touch wood) it's looking good.

Hope you get yours sorted mate.
