I have considered a new windshield on mc 2014 Lim. then I dismissed the idea and now since the wife is getting a new LRS for her new SGS I may want a change. My confusion is about the height of the stock one and comparing that to a new one?? I saw the old thread about the 2014-15s coming with a 10 inch screen but when i measured mine I found it to measure 11 inches from the center hole to the top edge. I thought that was how they are measured? The Windsplitter shield on my wife's bike is the 7 inch model and it does measure 7 from the middle of the center hole to the top edge.

If I de get a new LRS I will have to decide if I want to stay at the same height as the stock one and hope for the design to improve wind deflection or go with a taller one and certainly combine that with the design and assure better deflection.

How can Harley call this 11 inch screen a 10 inch?

When I bought my Freedom Shield there were measurement instructions on their site. They measured from the top of the trim to the top of the windshield (the exposed section if the shield). Maybe Harley's doing the same thing now.

I would suggest you check the LRS site so you're both talking about the same measurement when you place your order.

Hey Doc, I had a 7" dark tint and now an 8" lightly tinted Freedom.  Vickie was getting a bit of wind from the top of the 7".  The 8" is much better for both of us (I'm 5'7, Vickie is 5'2) and the view through the shield is clear as a bell...no distortion whatsoever even in the curves of the shield.  Hope the pic helps....

Thanks guys it does depend on where you measure it from. I just want to be sure i am getting what i think I am. I will measure again this evening from the trim up.

Measures 9 and 7/8 from the fairing top to windshield top. I guess that's 10 inched for HD. From the center of the screw it is 11 inches and that is how LRS measure theirs.

If you are after quality I would be going for a Freedom Shield.

Have you had experience comparing the Freedom to the Long Ride Shield? Honestly it is like trying to decode on a choke tube for a turkey shotgun. You have to buy them ALL and try them ALL under ALL types of conditions for true comparative analysis.

Jesse are you using the LRS? What size? And don't tell me you have 15 incher.

I have used both and the difference in quality and screen thickness is very noticeable, the Freedom has very nice

polished edges and is very robust, they seem to both work the same but the Freedom in my opinion looks better

and doesn't feel flimsy.

Well I put the LRS and I am getting used to it. It is taller and looks different but the wind protection is very good. I will use this for a while and may get one of those Freedom shields later.

Hey i have polarized glasses and there is that annoying rainbow prism in the curved area of the shield does the freedom shield do the same thing?

Replaced my stock screen with the LRS 9" dark tint Elite.  Very nice fit and finish.  Good wind protection and I can see over it.

I bought the medium tint Elite at 11 inches. Only took one bug tithe face on the last ride. I was going along after 100 miles or so planning my new thread about not taking any bugs to the face and within a minute a big one got inside my helmet around the ear.

I noticed the exact same thing with the rainbow, no this doesn't happen with the Freedom.

I ordered the Freedom 12" last week and should get it shortly.  Had a rock hit the stock screen hard yesterday and put a big gouge in there so I guess the timing is good!
