For all of you who leave stuff on your bike here is a story.
Several of my friends were on their way to Florida today. They stopped at a hotel in Atlanta and while checking in someone stole everything off their bike. I always leave my helmet and jacket hanging on the bike And while traveling have stuff strapped to the bike. Not no more...

Nothing inflames me more than a thief. I hear a nine, go pop pop pop or a 45 go boom boom boom. Don't take my chit!

Bill, I wouldn't leave my bike unattended in Atlanta even with nothing hanging on it, like helmet or jacket. They were lucky the bikes were still there.

I wouldn't pass through Atlanta on a bike, ever. I completely went around it last time I was in GA. That place is a nightmare!

I'm old enough and have been riding long enough to easily remember a time when it was unheard of that someone messed with a bike.  The stereotypes being as wrong as they often were at least they kept people from screwing with your motorcycles.  Now total strangers think nothing of coming up and sometimes even leaning against a bike just for a stupid selfie.  Assholes.

Atlanta is full of crime and thievery. Last time I rode through there on the highway I thought for sure i would get run over. Unfortunately big mistake leaving bikes unattended in any area anymore.  Sorry for your friends problems I am 2 hours from there if I can be of any help.

Some areas of Atlanta are unsafe in any way, even for the locals. The traffic is deadly for sure but there are some nice places there with a larger margin of safety.

I do leave helmet, jacket and gloves on the bike many times when I am at the dealerships around the country hoping for a code of ethics and respect from other bikers. Probably getting to be more dangerous all the time. I think there was time that bikers respected each other and their property.

I live just west of Atlanta and the crap that used to only happen in the city has spread into my area. Crime has escalated here the last several years to the point that the local PD had to set up a curfew in the shopping mall. Lot of gang problems, smash and grabs, armed robberies and things I never would have imagined are going on every day around here now. I leave nothing out on my bike and make sure it is locked when I'm not on it, same for my truck and it has been broken into twice already. Damn shame the way things have taken a turn, not just here but all over.

Why limit to Atlanta?  Any urban area is the same at this point.  It's the only thing keeping me on a full dresser instead of RG Classic or a SG Classic.  The ability to lock my stuff up in the tour pack.  You can actually haul more on a detachable luggage rack with a decent travel bag, but it can walk off, cable lock or not.  I have locking lowers too.

Fortunately, thieves don't seem to realize how easy it is to get around the lock on the tour pack.  Or I've been lucky.  Probably a bit of both along with an out of site out of mind thing.

Muddypaws, I also keep my bike in view when eating in a restaurant, or checking into a motel. I take luggage in, get relaxed, by that time the bike is cool enough where I can put the cover on. Sometimes my wife says I am overly protective of my bike, but I love my bike and I don't want to have to buy another one because  some idiot needs a hit of crack. If they steal a $300.00 helmet they will trade it for $25.00 worth of dope.  I try to get a room on a lower level where I can see my bike, or be close enough to hear the alarm. A lot of places I have stayed will let you park your bike under the overhang near the entrance. In casino parking lots there always seems to be a lot of security so I usually feel comfortable leaving my bike in a covered parking spot. A lot of casinos have area's especially for motorcycles. The disgust I have for thieves that pray on people like us is off the scale. Sore back or not my credo is " don't mess with someone from Winnipeg who grew up playing Hockey! CAHDBIKER

I read this and went out and drilled a hole in my TP bracket so I can attach a lock to it. I didn't give much thought to it prior to reading this. We leave tomorrow for a seven day road trip, the bike will be outside at night all week.....
