Its like a new bike - GMR Lifter install -
« on: April 30, 2015, 09:22:19 AM »

A couple of days ago I completed my install of GMR Lifters in my 2007 SERK.  I cannot believe the difference in the way it sounds, runs, and feels.  The engine is idling more smoothly and consistent.  The valve train isnt silent by any means, but its a totally different sound than before and much more like the sounds that came from my 2009 Super-Glide.  I reused the stock pushrods as I had the top open anyway for inspection.  I rode yesterday for 3 hours straight (about 200 miles) and not one issue.  I still have a tick but its different than before and makes more sense.  I would bet if I would have installed some adjustables, I could have removed most of the tick as well.  Anyway, thanks for all the advice and help Steve at GMR.  And thank to you all of you all that helped and gave advise as well from here on the forum.
PS.  Now to find me a Dragonfly detachable batwing....

Some of the remaining tick could be coming from the rocker boxes. They made a change in 2008 and instructed dealers to grind off a small part in the 2007 and early 2008 rocker boxes.

I don't think that's the case.  I opened the top to see specifically if there were contact marks, and there are none.  I do have the older boxes but I don't appear to be making contact...I sometimes wonder if it's an exhaust leak sometimes lol..

Not sure why you guys think those heavy-ass adjustable pushrods are a + over fixed length? NO one would use a adjustable pushrod in a car of any performance capability, only reason for an adjustable p/r in a car is to use one to determine length needed then order the correct length fixed p/r to actually run the motor.

If changing lifters only, I'd use adjustable's. Save me from removing the gas tank, rocker covers. Plus if I want to adjust the lifters a tad deeper, I can.

Well many do in fact buy & install custom length P/R . But weight on the lifter side is not a issue car or other wise to the point it is going to create problems.   I have hot rods and race cars sure but when you have 4-6 cams to install in a week having custom made made rods are not going to work.  Not in a time line that work to get the work completed. This week I have 4 bikes to install cams and tune..  SE does have the perfect fit rods that is an option..

For push in cams sure no issue at all but when you start swapping head gasket thickness, base circles not the same on all cams, shops that are ok with removing large amounts of deck to increase compression .. Some one need's top measure the set up.

Plus how would you ever have the long depressing post on lifter depth depression  :beatdeadhorse: :ROFLOL:

Think yellow bullet + cactus ..

You are welcome..  The car world vs the HD world is really a 180 as far as how things are done etc.. I live in both so I get the point..
