Dad's New Heritage
« on: January 10, 2007, 12:27:37 AM »

Awhile ago I asked my Mom if she could find the picture of my Grandfather on his Thor with my Grand mother.  It was a 1920 something I think.

Anyway, she said she would look.  So today in the mail she sends me not Grandpas picture but one of her and Dad on their new bike.  Actually a couple of pics.

I'll post them here, when you see this first one it won't be difficult to see where the Springer Heritage came from.  These shots were taken February 8, 1947.

He taught me to drive and ride.  Our last motorcycle ride together I was on my 1976 FLH and it was a great day.  Most likely that was around 1984.  He didn't ride much after that, back then when you got new hips they didn't want you riding anymore.

We had a lot of good times after that though right on through to the day he passed on, St. Patrick's day 1999.

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as I have.

And here is the other.  I thought this may be his police bike but not sure.

That first image is great Rog.  That ought to be enhanced, blown up and printed and put on a wall someplace.

Don I agree, it must have come from a pretty good camera, but the pic itself is 2 3/4 X 1 7/8.

Very small, I imagine the right photo shop can enlarge it, it is very clear.  You can tell that from my scan.

Wish the bike was still around almost as much as I wish my dad was.

Great pictures.....I asked my Mom about a month ago to see if she can find the pics of my Dads old Harley from before they met in the early 50's.  Hasn't located em yet, just a matter of time.  Hold on to those, they are priceless.  It's a good idea to make digital copies of all pics like that, then burn em to a CD and send em to a relative somewhere to keep for you, that way if something happens at your place you have another copy somewhere.

It is fun, I have some pics around here too, I guess we all get busy and that stuff doesn't get the time it deserves in our lives.

FR8 good idea about burning the CD, my computer crashed and I had to reconstruct all my stuff including pics.  Fortunately I had most of them at my work computer too.

To everyone for the kind comments, glad I could share.  There must be some great old family bike shots out there, let's find them and get them posted.

Great shots, Rog. It must have been nice growing up in a motorcycle environment. I had to run away from home at 16 because I wasn't allowed to have a motorcycle. I've been riding and been on my own ever since!!! That was over 35 years ago. Me and my mom laugh about that now! ;) Hoist!  8-)
