Pull behind trailers.....what do you pack?
« on: May 03, 2015, 11:56:26 AM »

I always have my tools on the bike (for other's bikes  ;D ) and in my trailer I always have the spare tire and have had a spare in all three of my Bushtecs.  But my question is for those of you pulling trailers, what else do you carry for your trailering?

Even though I'm pulling a 2013 trailer, it's been all the way across this country twice plus a number of smaller trips....wondering if you guys carry (have needed) a set of wheel bearings or anything I'm not thinkin of.  What do you carry and have you actually needed it/used it on the road?

After needing a tow a couple years ago and learning how poorly equipped some of these tow companies are for securing a bike I now carry a set of soft ties and if I have my trailer a couple of ratchet tie down straps.  Fortunately the guys that came to tow me were motorcyclists themselves and went to an auto parts store and bought some soft ties.

I carry a spare trailer tire, a set of trailer bearings ( packed with grease ), extra oil, scissor jack, ratchet straps & soft ties, leathers, spare helmet, clothes, and special refreshments.
May even carry cleaning stuff just in case someone gets bored.

In addition to those things MikeyTee listed above: a 12V air compressor with 12 ft power cord--reaches from cigarette lighter to trailer tires.

I mentioned that to somebody over the weekend......got the funniest looks from Babe.  :nixweiss:

You guys have given me a list that's gonna brake the bank.....I'll not have any $ left for the next trip.....sorry I asked.  :(    So I guess, after I get all the stuff listed above I tell her "sorry honey, you still only get the one saddle bag for your stuff".   :P

I carry wheel bearings and a wrench to pull the wheels.  Compressor, cable locks two of them, cleaning supplies, spare tire, patch kit plus slime for tubes. Then there's the array of tools, wire ties, light bulbs for bike and trailer, map, jumper cables and a first aid kit.

You guys must have a tool box attached to the luggage rack on top.   I could probably save a lil money by just taking the tool box out of the bed of my super duty and strapping it on top. :huepfenlol2:

I was thinking the same thing not to mentionen the extra 100lbs the bike has to pull around! :nervous:

No wonder all you guys have to build up your motors or dropping in 124" HAH!

Ask Hogasm, I showed up to his house 2 weeks ago with the following in the trailer.
Craftsman 4 drawer tool chest, 2 spare tires, extra wheel bearings, grease gun and grease, 2 gallons of shine, 12volt compressor, tire repair kit, 5 quarts of oil, oil filter, scissors jack, cleaning supplies, 2 cans brake clean, tool bags that fit in the bottom of the saddlebags ( in the trailer ), bike cover, rain suit, 2 led work lights, spare helmet, 2 moving pads, 2 cable locks, 22 survival rifle, 357 mag, and my clothes. I had plenty of room left over but was road testing the Redtec 1 on a short 1000 mile round trip.
JC, wait till you see what I have in it for the Ouray trip.  ::)

Leave the trailer and the wife... Ship shape ready when you leave eliminates a lot of the problems!

The wife yes, the trailer not. The trailer was built to haul the refreshments! Don't leave home without them.
