I change it every 5000 miles per MoCo's recommendation. I too use Amsoil.

Amsoil here too...every 5,000 miles.  And Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof in the tranny at the same intervals.

Mobil I Vtwin here...every 5K, but wouldn't be concerned going over as much as 2K if I was on the road.  We probably all change it too often, truth be told....

I use Amsoil and change it every 5000 km's.  I'm sure we are changing the oil way too much.  Unless you are driving in extremely hot or dusty conditions you should be able to 8000 miles before changes.  I like to keep the Amsoil guys in business though.

Oil change frequency has more to do with the type of driving / riding than it does with exact mileage.  Folks who ride short distances, stop and go traffic, cold weather, etc. should change more often than someone who puts mostly highway miles on their vehicle (this applies to your car/truck as well as your bike).  A top quality synthetic like Amsoil or Mobil 1 will easily exceed the recommended 5k change interval, but most of us still change at the recommended intervals anyway.  In my case, I also change the fluids when I put the bike away for the winter, even if I changed it just a short time before.  Combustion byproducts along with moisture create acids in the oil, and to be safe I change it before storage.

I still change the amsoil at 3K miles or every 3 months.  Sometimes when I'm traveling and lately,  I don't get the chance to ride as much as I'd like too,  and it is still important to change on a timeline as wella as by mileage.

Go with 5,000 miles interval in the summer,  but in the winter with all the rain an condensation that the motor develops I change it every 2,500 miles.  And use Amsoil in all the holes.

I guess I'm wasting $s.  Engine every 2500, primary and transimission every 5000.  Amsoil V-Twin in the engine and primary, and Amsoil gear lube in the tranny.

Me too Ernie! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I just got Mobile 1 and looks like I might start going 5000 now. I just have always changed my oil at 2500 miles. Guess the savings on oil will allow for more chrome!!!!! Yeahhhhh Babbbbyyy! [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=pepper.gif] [smiley=cucumber.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif] [smiley=carrot.gif]

All teasing aside.  With modern synthetics there's not any real need to change so often.  Personal desire to is a separate thing to be judged individually.  But the oil surely doesn't require it.

In practical use we really get two primary benefits from the synthetics.  We expand the envelope inside of which we enjoy adequate protection from the lubricants package and we extend service life.  We really do short change ourselves if we buy the expensive oil and then drop it out at short service intervals.

I'll readily admit that I would change it at less miles in certain (non-abuse) circumstances.  But that would only be on engines that don't collect many miles.  If miles only got racked up slowly I'd ending up changing by time rather than mile intervals; about every six months.
