2015 RGU Freedom Shield
« on: May 14, 2015, 07:48:52 PM »

I had told some folks I'd post a review of my 14 inch Freedom Shield once I got it on and tested.  I went with the light tint.  For comparison I'm 6'2" with about a 34 inch inseam and look about 2 inches over stock 14 inch windshield.  The wind was hitting me right at eye and ear level with the stock windshield.

Initial impressions are the tint is very light(I like it), there is a very slight distortion at the recurve but not bad.  Shield seems to stand a bit more upright than stock, have not measured it, maybe a half inch or more.  So far as wind it pushes the air about 2-3 inches higher than the stock shield.  Its still hitting my helmet about mid height but at least its out of my face.  I wear a half helmet so its a few inches above my face.  Wind noise is reduced but maybe still a bit more than I expected.  I can overcome it with radio volume now where that did not work before.  Can't tell that the vents have any effect other than to direct air right at me I guess due to height.  Did not get a chance to try it with my wife on back.  I may look at getting a 16 or 17 for distance touring.

Several photos one per post:

Looks nice, if I ever put the stock seat back on, I would sure consider that shield.

TN, that looks great!    :2vrolijk_21:   I should be getting the first 14" medium tint today.  If so I'll post pictures.

They told me when I ordered there was a week backorder and they shipped pretty much right at a week later.  Took several days for UPS ground to get to TN. The film that was on both sides for shipment and trial is some tough stuff.  Took a bit of effort to get it off.  One of the fairing screws was a bit difficult going back in so I probably cross threaded it.

They can be hard to get restarted.  I have had difficulty with them.  I never use any tool until I and turn them in a couple turns by hand.  Some times one has taken me 10 to 15 tries to get it to go in by hand and it was hard to turn by hand.

Hope you did not cross thread yours.

My medium tint 14" arrived this a.m.  When I went to remove the stock shield, however, I found the left outside wellnut could not be removed.  The brass seat was bent and dealer messed up the plastic trying to fix.  Bike is down but in my garage.    >:(

Good news is that the medium tint is very nice.  Not so dark that it will be an issue at night.   Sorry no pictures yet.
