so I love the sound of the boarzilla we just put on

first day on the way to work (I wear dress slacks)  I noticed that I already have pants melted on the pipe

it doesn't hit when I'm riding, but when the feet come down at a stop.   and the slacks are hangin, they are touching the pipes

whats a good way to prevent this other than changing back and forth,  which I really don't want to do

A piece of velcro to wrap around your pant leg where it touches the pipe or tie a string to keep the pants close to your leg.

I had the same problem when I had the D&D Fat Cats on my '07 cuse2.  If I was wearing jeans it wasn't a big problem - well unless I got so close to the pipe that I really felt the heat which happened a couple times.  Problem for me was when wearing rain pants and when wearing my FXRG nylon riding pants.  I melted both of them on many occasions.  One thing I definitely did not like about the D&Ds.  That along with the sound being too loud for me and my co-rider lead us away from the D&D.

Rubber band around leg? Until you get to destination, of course.

Yes, definitely stay away from double knit. Cotton should not melt, but a couple rubber bands around leg like bicycle riders use should fix this. You can actually buy velcro bands for this purpose (bicycle that is)

What about a heat shield to keep your pants off the pipe
