Stutter at a specific throttle position.
« on: May 20, 2015, 03:45:56 PM »

I know I am bugging the hell out of you guys, but I AM weeding out the messes!  So, I have this little stutter when I hold the throttle in a specific position.  Dont laugh, but its like "daaaaa.da.dadaaaaaaaaaaaa.da.daaaaaa"  LOL.  At first I thought maybe it was the Fuelpak and just a bad mode but I unplugged to FP and went with just the ECM and its there too.  Its really early in the throttle twist.  I removed the A/C and cleaned that all out with seafoam spray (it was a little cruddy) but it is still doing it.  Any ideas?
Thanks

Believe it or not,I might have figured it out.  The little cap on the end of the spark plug was horribly loose.  Almost off actually.  I removed the plugs to examine them.  Probably need replaced anyway.  But I tightened it and reinstalled, after cleaning them of course and so far it's not doing it.  Btw, both plugs were a medium to light brown.  In my carburetor days I would I considered that to be ok if not a tiny bit rich.  So I dunno...

so it was dropping one cylinder , spark plug though..   Reading a plug with todays pump gas is very hard and can be mis leading.

Yep.  I rode in this morning to work, not one stutter.  Yea as for reading the plug, it was more of an observation.  Side note, I have an appointment with a dyno next week.  I'm curious.  V&H said that if I can get dyno results, they can build me a more accurate map.  Lol.  It's only 45.00 and I figured other than the 45.00, what do I have to lose lol?!  I have started my wish fund...hopefully before the season is over, I'll have a real tuner lol..

How can they do that ?? you show them a WOT run and they then sell you a new fuel curve for that pull??? The WOT area is where you spend the least amount of time riding. Those tuners are a patch style map ( large section changes) Save your money would be my suggestion. Install the proper tuner when you can.

As V&H explained, if I give them the a/f ratios throughout the fuel circuit (measured at specific speeds and throttle positions), he can compare it to the numbers I currently have in the modes, and make a more accurate and educated map.  I am no expert, but I figured it would be interesting to see the a/f, torque and HP that I am currently producing..no?

I WAS running an octane booster due to the 89 octane, but I am no longer.  What do you see on that plug that concerns you the most...

well your finger nails are way to clean .. ha ha  the octane booster coats the plugs so what you see there is nothing really. Just booster. I would suggest a set of new plugs gap to .035 and then ride the bike. If your tune is off running a step colder plug may be of some help for you as well.

I see...LOL..  The current plug is the autolite 4164.  I am not really sure what plug to run other than the same plug thats in there.  I do occasionally get a cough right after changing from 1st to 2nd and applying throttle after the clutch release.. a hesitation..but the stutter is gone.  This bike actually had an autotuner on it when I got it, cant recall the name, but it failed due to water getting into it.  The unit had connections to my O2 sensors, as well as my TPS...and if I am not mistaken, the ECU.  Cant recall the name though.

While the autolite is a common plug I have found the direct part number swap from stock to work . However I have seen a leaner afr running the Autolite vs Champion ..  I was testing some plugs and saw that based on a stock 103 build direct plug for plug.

I would suggest one step colder plug NGK being that you have a so so tuner. It will not hurt the set up. and those plugs are junk now.
