Rear tire wear
« on: May 24, 2015, 03:13:55 PM »

I knew my rear tire was about gone, decided to take a short ride and change it out the next day. Bumped into some friends, forgot about the tire & short ride became 300 miles. Might have pushed it a little to far?????

Oh geez buddy, you know this already and I know you're not trying truly make light of this, but that was due for a change well before that last 300 mile trip.  Too many of us aren't really sure how far we can push this stuff.  Not even considering the potential failure just the idea of getting caught in an unexpected little shower can ruin a guy's/gal's whole day.  Glad you got it home ship shape and in Bristol fashion :2vrolijk_21: .

By the looks of the tread left on the side that tire had to sing with all the cupping.       Billy

Been riding a long time, this is only the second time I have seen anyone ride with a tire that bad. Both of you were lucky and made it home. Glad it didn't let loose on you.

What's with these "friends" of yours...  None of them noticed the white strip around the center of your tire?   :nixweiss:  :nervous:  :nervous:

Yeah..... Letting that go is just about as bad letting someone leave the bar with their keys when you know they shouldn't.

I'm reminded of a GTG at Hot Springs, AR years and years ago.  I saw a big ugly bulge in one of Chip's tires.  Before I got a chance to let him know at least two other guys had already done.   I'd also made sure while I was looking for him that someone else stayed close to the bike so no one would just hop on it without noticing.  Once he came out and decided to nurse the bike to the local dealership four or five of us rode with him just to make sure no else could follow too close; just in case.  Wasn't anything anyone asked for or really thought about.  Just the stuff we do to look out for each other because we can't expect anyone else will.

Reminds me of a previous Maggie Valley GTG. We were on 74 at exit 102 almost back to Maggie Valley and I noticed Terry Cranes bike had the same look. He got a new tire installed asap. Way too much to lose going to far on a tire like that.

I've done dumb chit like that when I was young and dumb.  Even knew a couple of guys that lost their lives playing russian roulette like that.  Did a lot of dumb chit when I was young....car load of us in an old Plymouth, drunk of course....get it up over 100 mph on a country road at night then turn the lights out and use the moonlight to drive by.

When it's somebody you know, that's when you start to really consider "what is my life really worth?".  For many years as a youngster I thought the most important thing was speed and performance and that's where all my money went in a bike.  Now it's brakes and tires.

I hope you realize that was your warning shot from the man upstairs.  :2vrolijk_21:

No burn outs on this trip?   Wow is all I could say. If it was me I would have been waiting for a tow.  Glad you made it home safe.
