HK Head Unit
« on: May 27, 2015, 10:24:40 AM »

Hi,

Can any one advise on the following. My HK Head unit shows all the relevant information regarding radio stations, CD Player, I Pod etc. it even shows up the volume bars. Problem is no sound coming from any of the speakers? I have read a few posts saying that the head units are poor quality. I have also read that Iron Cross do a repair service. My problem is I want to be sure it is the head unit before I go to the expense of shipping to the USA and of course the time.

Any advice on what to check for apart from the usual suspects of loose connections etc., which I have done by removing the fairing and looking for loose wires. Nothing obvious to date??

Thanks. :confused5:

My '08 cuse3 is on radio 4.  It just started happening again.  I will milk it through the summer and then send this one to Iron Cross as it's no longer under the ESP.

The way I "milk" it is to switch the speaker switch to headphones for 30 seconds and then switch it back.  It pops and voila... sound again.  Obviously, without the speaker switch that isn't going to work for you.  Turning the radio on and off never helped.  I have to turn the bike off and on or the speaker switch.  If it's not resetting from that and you've checked the obvious (amp connected, volume up) it sounds like a head unit for sure.  Just a note - it seems to happen more on hot days.

What J-Carr said.  I had same symptoms on my head unit.  Either send to Iron Cross (best choice) or buy a take-off on ebay (not recommended since many of them have or will have same problem).

+3 on Iron Cross.  Having the bluetooth option installed and changing the color of the display to match the bike are very good options from them along with the repair.
