New to Harley
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:28:28 PM »

Well I have a Question, I've ridden Metric Bikes all my life until now. I just bought a 2015 Limited CVO. I love this bike, never want to get off of it. well to the question. I reached 800 miles, I called to set up 1000 mile service. dealership gave me a date a month away. WTF?  Is this the way it is at Harley Dealerships ? just asking because I love this bike over my Goldwing in so so many ways. I feel this is insane?

Welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21:

Regarding service appointment... all depending on dealership and where you are located this is/could be a busy time of year for them and they are booked. You may want to check w/other dealerships, independents, or do the service yourself.

Or......if you tell us where you're located maybe some of our members can suggest someplace else.

1,000 miles comes pretty quick and I believe that most dealerships try to make an appt. for that on the day the owner takes delivery.

By the way, the service doesn't have to be performed at a Harley Dealership.  You can do it yourself or have it done at any independant shop just be sure to keep your receipts just in case you have a warranty issue/claim down the road.

I will call other Dealerships, when I bought the Bike they where very persistent about getting the bike to a Harley dealership for the first service. normal I would do the service myself. just figured warranty wise I would take it in.  I will do my self before I park it> thanks

I modified my post to include additional info. while you were responding.  You can do it yourself, just keep the receipts for the oil/filter, etc.

I live in Tioga County New York. I bought the bike 2 hrs west of me where I have a camp. I like the dealership but this doesn't set well with me.
I'll call Fingerlakes Harley in the morning. I'm also looking for pipes and a tuner.

A month sounds stupid for a maintenance. My dealership does not even require you call them. They do maintenance on a first come first serve basis. They have technicians that do nothing but maintenance. It is not exactly rocket science. In addition, you cruise in there on a CVO, you go next, no matter how many are waiting. That includes service or repair. They are a pretty good size dealer with a large service department. Maybe that is why they are able to take care of their customers faster? I dunno. I occasionally read posts on this forum complaining of bad service and such. It completely blows my mind. I chit you not, my dealership seriously kisses the behind of it's customers.

One more thing. It is actually fun to do the maintenance service yourself and as you stated already, not hard to do. Just save the records showing your purchases of fluids.

Welcome to the site ranprk! Everyone's dealership experience on the timeline differs it appears. It probably would take a multiple weeks or a month at the dealer where I purchased my CVO this time of year - not much behind kissing there CVO or not. Generally they act like they're doing you a favor.

Learn to do the services yourself or get accustomed to $300-$500 oil changes, etc.  All they are going to do at 1k is change the fluids.

Welcome to the site from Vernon, British Columbia. I had a similar experience when trying to book in for the recent clutch recall. Three weeks out, I said for a safety recall? All of a sudden a slot opened up 4 days away.... I have my bike serviced by an indi who are far more accommodating. I don't mind making an appointment, but four weeks out or 1000 miles could leave you with bike you can't ride, unless you DIY.

Welcome and sorry to hear of your poor service experience. I would get and independent to do the service or ride it till they have an opening if you still like that place. There has been some date on this forum about the need for the 1000 mile service and it's need. That would leave a bad taste in my mouth. If they have that much business they do not need your money and you might tell them that if you decide to burn the bridge.
