Broken throttle cable.
« on: June 12, 2015, 08:21:34 AM »

So yesterday one of my throttle cables broke.  It isn't the one that accelerates.  It's the one that returns the throttle plate.    Cant find the part number.  But I'm wondering about those re-cableing kits.  Do they work?  Other ideas.
Thanks

I'm not familiar with what you're calling a recable kit.

Thanks for the part number.  With the kit I was talking about, you basically replace the wire inside your current cable.  I have ordered the replacement cable, but is is ok to ride it this weekend for a poker run?
Thanks

Back in the olden days, as some like to say, there was only one cable and the world still revolved on it's axis.  The second cable was later added as a safety feature, so you could close the throttle if the return spring failed or the throttle cable got stuck in the open position.  So yes, if your throttle snaps closed when you release the grip, like it's supposed to, I wouldn't be afraid to ride it until you get the new cable.

Thanks...Thats kinda what I figured.  The only thing that is pretty annoying is now that the cable is broken, the throttle grip rolls really far forward after the plate is closed!  But it twists and releases just fine.

Thanks!

UPDATE:  So I found this kit on e bay that replaces only the broken wire.  My sheath was in perfect shape.  I flushed it and re-lubed it with cable lube and replaced the wire.  Worked perfect and the kit came with everything I needed to get the job done.  I can share a link if anyone if interested....
Thanks
