Assembled in the US with mostly foreign (Chinese) parts.  Made in USA is for marketing purposes only with production being shipped to India.
Not mostly Chinese.  But a larger percentage than should be.  But I live 50 miles from the York plant.  I know a lot of good people who make their living there or working in restaurants or other service industry stuff in the area.  If they ship it to India their dead.  They know that.  The bikes made there are for there.  A wingnut is made 100% in Japan from Japanese parts.  Not interested.  Even if I could stand those damn Civics with two busted off wheels.

Apples to Apples?  DO they cover the same stuff with the same deductible?  To be honest that's scary cheap when you consider how much a typical Hardley Ableson takes in parts and labor over the course of five years.  They're not making money if they're paying out claims.  I'd be real cautious and do lots of research.

I don't think CornerStone is as big as CNA, but they aren't a fly by night outfit.  They've been around since the 70's and are known more in other markets like RV's and non-Harley motorcycles.  As for what they cover, someone would need to sit down with a complete copy of each companies contract and do a direct comparison to be sure, but from what I read online when Kutter started offering it, it looks like they have pretty much the same coverage and same exclusions as the CNA product that Harley sells.  As for pricing, I hope that most people realize there is a big dealer markup in these products, for all kinds of products.  The reason some of the electronics stores push them so hard is that the margin on the ESP's is often higher than it is on electronics and appliances.  In the case of the Harley endorsed ESP, you also have to figure in the cut that Harley gets to endorse them, on top of the markup the dealership gets.

If I were an ESP shopper, and I'm not, I would be most interested in determining if the CornerStone product would be accepted by the Harley dealers as well as the independents.  Having one of these policies isn't of much help if no one will accept it, unless you want to pay the full retail repair bill and try to submit a claim yourself.  To me that's the only real advantage of the CNA product; since Harley endorses it and basically requires it's dealers to accept it, customers don't have to worry about being told by a dealership they won't accept it.  Of course that still doesn't mean the dealership will actually know how to fix anything.

I've posted on this forum before.....buy from a dealership that's hungry and you'll get your best deal.  The small dealerships are sometimes more willing to negotiate on that CVO.  Once they have what they think is a hook in you.....is the time to negotiate your best deal on that extended warranty.

If they think selling that CVO that's been sitting there for months is contingent on selling you the extended warranty at cost....it's going to happen.  That's what happened with me on my 2010 SE Street Glide.  Then Jon (Jonga on this forum) went back up to that same little dealership and duplicated the purchase price on his SE Ultra Classic and extended warranty.

My 13 SE Ultra Classic.......well, it's still under factory warranty but I inherated the extended warranty when I stole the bike and trailer.  :P

The moral of this story......those extended warranties are negotiable.....no matter what that dealer is telling you.   :2vrolijk_21:

In Alabama the dealers refuse to negotiate on esp warranties which sucks.  They get $1,269.00 for a one year with tire and wheel.   Over $3,500.00 for 5 years.  So if you want to go to Kutter for the esp they offer you first have to buy a Harley esp or they refuse to sell you theirs.

If the Kutter 5 year is only what the chart shows its still a deal for us in this area to buy a 1 year Harley and then add the Kutter for 6 years coverage.

Seriously considering it especially with the compensator clunk starting. Its a thousand times better since I changed the fluid to Red Line and put 38 ounces in.  Sure didn't get that out of it maybe 30 at the most.  Previous owner always used his dealer in Moore Oklahoma for service so they did the one quart deal I'm sure.   Really like the idea of the tire and wheel when I read of all the ones replaced for other forum members. Will see how it goes.

Yeah, I looked at my old notes over the weekend.  I'd misremembered the 70k.  It's always been the 75k.  I never really took note because I was almost at 90k when mine ran out.

I wasn't aware of Harley bumping the MSRP by $1k over the past couple years, and MSRP back in 2012/2013 was about $2400 for the longest plan including wheel and tire.  Are you saying the dealers in your state have engaged in illegal price fixing at a level above MSRP, or did Harley really bump prices more than a grand?

At $3500, my method makes even more sense than it did at $2400.  Put that $3500 in a safe investment and if or when you have a failure, pay for the repairs out of that pot of money.  If you get lucky and don't have any major failures, that pot can be used for other things or just saved for a rainy day.  At $3500, you could almost buy a complete long block.

But not install it.  Unless you have the tools an expertise to do it yourself.  Not something the majority of riders can do.  While I agree that in most cases service plans are a rip off, they do have two things that make them worth while for some (Full disclosure - I'm of that "some" category):  Budget.  I could not afford to replace an egine or tranny at the time I bought my CVO.  To find a $2400 pot of money would not have been possible.  So I bought the extended service plan and added it to my payment.  Raising the payment with interest by only $60 or so (7 year loan).  That I could afford every month.  It also gave me the security in knowing that whatever went wrong, I could get it fixed.  In my case, three radios and a lifter, cam rebuild later (along with other sundry repairs) my ESP paid for itself about three fold.

MY next bike will be bought cash.  No financing.  As of now, nobody's made a bike that I need to replace my current CVO with.  So I continue to save up and maybe I'll actually have to make the decision to go with the emergency fund or not.  I do the emergency fund for the house with a 5k reserve fund.  But it's only for the house or vehicle, not toys.  And as much as I love my bike, it's a toy.

Just pointing out the other side of the equation.  I certainly can't argue that an ESP is a money maker for the company that sells them.  But it does offer a piece of mind and planning tool that might make an otherwise untenable situation go away.

I bought the ESP for my 2012 from a smaller out of state dealer at a substantial discount.  I happened to be in the area last year and stopped by to meet the F&I person who handled my ESP.  She told me the dealership had indeed been hungry and wanting to write more ESP contracts, hence the discount.  But mother Harley slapped their hand and told them no more discounts.  They can still sell out of their area but no discounting is what she told me.  Gotta keep that stock price up don't ya' know!  Screw 'em.  I'll look at CornerStone should I ever get another new Harley.
