Extended Warranty Program
« on: June 17, 2015, 10:48:12 AM »

Hi and Happy Riding. My 09, which I purchased in mid Sept. of 2008 has a extended warranty that is about to run out soon. Any tips on what to purchase to get my warranty extended and how much I should pay. I have read some of the old posts and can't reach a decision. My original warranty card calls itself " extended service plan" . Should I call them to renew, or just go down to dealer? I would want wheel and tire coverage again if possible. Thanks in advance. There are mileage cutoffs and years that limit if you can purchase the ESP that Harley sells.  You're OK on the years (10) but the mileage may be an issue (70,000).  If you're under that mileage you can buy the same plan you had.  No need to rehash the pros/cons of ESP if you've read through the infinite posts here and on V-Twin, HTT, and the Garage, and the V-Rod forum and the... I think its been covered.  Personally, I'd have bought another one for mine as the last one paid for itself twice over.  But I'm well over the mileage.

BTW, double check that mileage figure.  I'm quoting from memory from a year ago when I talked to the dealer about it.

Thanks for the feedback. I called my local dealer and for the ESP with wheel and tire coverage they want $2100.00 for 3 years and $2700.00 for 5 years. Seems a little pricey from what I have read on the site before. Thanks CAHDBIKER

If you want the Harley endorsed ESP, I'd recommend you call around to all the dealers in your market area/state and compare prices.  Harley has cracked down on the places that were selling the ESP on the phone to people out of their market area, so that alternative is probably long gone by now.  You could also try one of the other plans offered by a different company.

Depends.  For me it was a bargain.  I put at least 7 grand on ESP over the 7 years.  I recall it was 2900 with the bike when new (2 factory/5 ESP).  Well worth it for me.  So since Harley has been screwing me on the quality is it rape for the ESP or is it just the lube?

Harley doesn't provide lube, it's optional at additional cost.  I thought you knew that. ;)

Eventually people are going to get tired of paying $2900 over and above the already outrageous prices of the bikes and just decide that riding doesn't have to mean riding a Harley.  Or at least I hope we eventually get to that point.  Trust me, things won't change unless the market forces a change.

Marty, I don't think old Ziggy qualifies anymore due o the 75,000 mile mileage limitation.

:D  ;D  Yeah, that's kind of what I meant.  $2900 for the lube to ease the pain of the complete lack of quality and reliability.

I just don't see that the market is dictating a flight away yet.  Certainly there's a trickle.  Maybe even a flow.  But I think both Polaris brands have a little ways to go yet and the Jap brands are still not appealing to a lot of us who want an American made machine.

Assembled in the US with mostly foreign (Chinese) parts.  Made in USA is for marketing purposes only with production being shipped to India.
