Looking to upgrade to 113, which crank?
« on: June 18, 2015, 09:43:26 PM »

I'm looking to possibly go from 110 to 113. I already have done cams, head work, and tuned as it is now and am making right around 125/125. From what I've read, I'm on the line already with how long the stock crank will last. I'm trying to get info on if it would be better to send the stock parts to dark horse for work or to buy the s&s piece. Any info would be great.

X2 with the S&S crank, then bore your 110 cylinders out to 4.060 and put in new flat top mahle pistons, Harley don't do them,
got mine from HD street performance.

Some money savings with the Hoban crank, and you'll not worry with that.
S&S cranks are certainly plenty tough........now.
Suburban HD has the 113" pistons.

I have a 2007 Road Glide. After a six thousand mile trip to Maggie Valley, Daytona and back to Dago, I converted it to a 103 by swapping out the jugs - - along with a bunch of other stuff. I've been thinking of tearing this bike apart and doing a bunch of things. I've had it now since September of 2006. I have beat on the motor and at 26,000 miles I'm starting to hear some odd noises and feel a little more vibration than is nomal I'd like to go with a 113 engine, Baker trans, Traxxion Dynamics front end, Bitubo shocks and complete makeover cosmetically.
The engine was orginally a 96"
1st question. Can I go to 113 "
? 2nd question. If the answer to #1 is yes, what's involved ?
Thanks for any suggestions and ideas

Yes, 117" will not cost any more however

Crank reworked or better yet S&S crank
The S&S is turn key and states their piston balance requirement, the rods are adequate without changing. Overall the cost is the same as a reworked crank with upgraded rods that will force rebalancing. The S&S is a hot forged and fully machined plus requires no truing plug or welding.

No need for Timken conversion

Bore cases to accept HD Bigger bore barrels (or larger if going to 117"), custom fit to pistons
4.065 or 4.070 Pistons, choice depends on compression and other factors like head choice

Head work, depends on build goals and previous work done, if any

Cam change, same comment as above

Thank you HD Street Performance
113 is fine for what I want
I need to find a shop in Maine to do the bottom end and final assembly with Dave Mackie doing the top end
I can install the motor and tranny myself.

A Hoban crank will be about $300.00 less than an S&S assembly, with their H-beam rods, balanced/plugged/welded, or at least from we see here in our day-in/day-out operation.

I've not used a S&S assembly in a TC..yet, several in Pans, Shovels Evo's, all good, but I have run a SE Hobanized as described by Hillside. I beat on that lower end in my 113" for nearly 70,000 miles, still going strong.  :2vrolijk_21:

To the OP, I went to a 113 10,000 miles ago and have hammered the **** out of it and the stock crank is holding out fine. Do whatever makes you feel good but the stock crank is not as bad as some make it out to be.      Just a contrarian voice among the crowd.

Well I have 30000 on the setup now. Just from what I've read and my builders advice is why I look into the crank work. I have the suburban hd 113 pistons on the way already.

Is that sending in mine to get reworked? Also I read that they lighten them some among other things. Is any of the extras worth the money?

I put an S&S crank in my 113 when I put it together.  I had GMR work my heads over, bore the jugs, send me a crank, and supply the consumables (pistons, gaskets, ect).  It was a very simple assembly.  Other than boring your cases, you should be able to do this yourself.  I only needed around $200 in specialty tools.
