I put an S&S crank in my 113 when I put it together.  I had GMR work my heads over, bore the jugs, send me a crank, and supply the consumables (pistons, gaskets, ect).  It was a very simple assembly.  Other than boring your cases, you should be able to do this yourself.  I only needed around $200 in specialty tools.

Chris

I have nothing negative to say about GMR and have not heard anything negative. I appreciate the free advice they provide the members of cvoharley.com on the various engine building threads. Having said all that however, I am a Dave Mackie Engineering guy through and through when it comes to cams and top ends. Nobody is better in my experience (30 plus years of using DME products) But the thing to remember here is that every rider has what they consider to be the optimal experience, where that sweet spot in the RPM range is, where they like the power to really kick in, how high up the RPM band they are comfortable letting the motor rev etc etc. I don't believe any one cam grinder has the entire spectrum of personal preference covered so you might like Woods, another guy GMR, another guy Andrews etc etc etc. Me, it's gotta be Dave Mackie cams with matching heads and intake runner.

There is nothing wrong with that at all.. I think its great to use one shop to match all the parts. Only thing better is to have that same shop tune the bike . One stop and done.  :2vrolijk_21:

I've not used a S&S assembly in a TC..yet, several in Pans, Shovels Evo's, all good, but I have run a SE Hobanized as described by Hillside. I beat on that lower end in my 113" for nearly 70,000 miles, still going strong.  :2vrolijk_21:

The crew at Darkhorse certainly knows how to attend to a crank.
Top-shelf reliable product once their done with it.
S&S cranks have been a mainstay here at our same-location* facility since the mid-1980's, and nothing wrong with those whatsoever.
Widely used in a variety of engine configrations here to include a Joe Hunt magneto/S&S G carb/Andrews #7 cam-equipped 106" Shovel that left for Athelstan, Quebec this morning. :)

No matter who rebuilds the crank , the shafts are part of the wheel. So what you get from HD is what you get , the crank from S&S is made from stronger material to start with . Think shipping down time warranty etc.

S&S can have that do a dealers door in a short time frame. Steel rod not powdered metal. Good points wither way Good luck with the build in what you use.

here is a short vid clip the race came loose from the rod. It makes a monster of a mess..

Wasn't very long ago that S&S cranks were being scoffed at(and not by us)and the ONLY crank that was to be considered at all, were those being built in NH..............like I've said before, the only thing I know for sure anymore, is that Jerimiah, WAS a bullfrog......... :D :D :D
