Danny Gray (Grey?) Airhawk saddles
« on: June 23, 2015, 11:54:13 AM »

I tried to order a new Corbin saddle in ways very specific to how I wanted it.  They were just too busy and/or too precious to deal with me.  So for the first time in a very long time will be looking at something other than a Corbin.

What are people's impression of the Airhawk big solo saddles?  I like a wide and relatively flat seat area.  No pronounced pocket so no uplifts that can put pressure on the thighs or front uplifts to cause cleavage in one's gentlemen's parts.

If someone has ridden one of these and has any firsthand impressions to share I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

Buy it thru Danny Gray and not Drag Specialties. If you order direct you can get anything you want done to the seat. IF you order from Dray you are kind of limited in the appearance of the cover.
I had one on my SERG for a very short time before I traded the bike, I thought it was great but I did not have it long enough to ride a high mileage day, maybe 200 miles the most at one time. But I would buy another.
I did notice one thing, everyone who looked at the seat, or sat on it said "you don't have enough air in it" I think most people do not realize you want it to fill in the gaps with your butt/legs and provide support not be a cushy recliner.

I have over 30,000 miles on mine and absolutely love it. Bt far the best seat I have ever had and I have always changed the seat on every bike I have ever owned. I get "monkey butt" fairly quick and nothing will ruin my ride faster so I have had 2 Corbin's, Mustangs and a local guy build a custom seat with memory foam and gel underneath and none of those were even close to the DG Airhawk Big Solo. I got mine directly from DG and Sherry who is in charge there gave me world class customer service! They designed the seat to match my maple paint job and worked with me on the design until I was completely happy and I am very "high maintenance"! I couldn't recommend them any stronger and I regularly will 10+ hour days on the seat.

Learned so much from your post.  Had done some but not a ton of research on the DG seats so far but didn't know they did that level of customization.  Couple that with your ride report and that's great info.  Thanks again to everyone.   :2vrolijk_21:

I will definitely be in touch with them. The saddle and especially the backrest look very much like the C&C saddle also.  Any idea if there is a relationship between the two?

I just purchased the Big SeatSolo Airhawk last week. I was out of town for a few days, so I haven't gotten to try the seat out yet. My main concern was the width of the seat. I, like you also like a wide seat. This seat is 13" to 14" wide depending on who you ask. My seat measures 13.5". I guess only miles will tell if I like it or not.

That seat looks very worthy of consideration.  I have never had my butt comfortable on any seat I have tried as of this time.  Like most on this forum I have done some long 10 to 12 hour days but I had to pay the price the next few days.  It seems once I get sore it takes less time the next day to reach the uncomfortable level I had when I got off the previous day.  I have an Air Hawk portable and it sure surprised me on how little air it took for me to get comfortable.  The comfort of a seat is a major part of riding any distance and is often overlooked until one gets the pain setting in.  Please keep us posted on the seat.

Biggest mistake most people make including me is putting to much air in the Airhawk. Works best with very little air. I find myself "tinkering" with it on very long riding days which helps.

Good insights guys.  I understand what you mean about second and later days.  With a good saddle can go 750 one day and ride it again the next and still feel much the same.  The seat on my Road King now had me on it it's longest since I built it recently.  685 one day and the next morning I still felt it badly.  The second day quickly became a 3 tank full day and I was done.  Would've stopped after the second tank but didn't want to be a complete and total wuss.

So true on both counts.
