My first Road Glide
« on: June 30, 2015, 05:54:47 PM »

Just traded my 12 CVO Ultra for the burgundy blaze & typhoon maroon road glide. Picked it up yesterday and it is an amazing ride,  thought it may take some getting used to as i always had the ultras with the batwing.  This bike damn near drives itself, looking forward to a ride to my cabin this weekend.

Welcome,

You will learn to appreciate that Road Glide more and more as you ride it. You'll be amazed at how stable it is in wind and around trucks. your days of wrestling a fairing to keep your bike straight are over, and it will be noticeable at the end of a long day.

I fell in love with mine as soon as I picked my feet up off the ground. Then when I hit the interstate I knew it was worth every penny. I turned around at the first off ramp, went back and wrote the check.  After a trip or two I did switch out the windshield to a 14" Freedom Shield to kick the wind up and over just a bit. Now the only issue I have is the heat on my right leg (I could bake a potato if I taped it just below my knee). I am about to get rid of that problem with a Fullsac header pipe set up. Other than that its all good. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine.

Very easy to do. Have to pull the pin under the bars. I think someone on this site has posted pix.

I've noticed some dealers prep the bikes with the bars in a very low position almost like a Limited. Mine seem to be raised up against the pin but pin not removed yet.  I find them comfortable so probably will not mess with raising any higher.  There are several posts here and on roadglide forum about removing the pin.

It was a bit hard to find but here is the link to the discussion of the handlebar pin:

If you look about halfway down the first page, you will find a post from Garemlin with a link to the roadglide.org site describing the pin removal with pictures.  That may help you out.....

Ron, the two I've sat on (so far) have been in the perfect position for this old short boy.  I really like the feel of the bars....don't like the position of the rear footboards.  Again, for us short folks, dem boards are in an awful position.  If I purchased one, the footboards would be the first to be reworked, not the handlebars.  I do like the way these new SERG's sit......

And Nick, I like the new ride brother..... :2vrolijk_21:

The passenger floor boards hit me right in the back of my calf it was the same on my 12 Ultra. If you take the boards off and then remove the adjustable leg and swap it to the other side you can move the boards back enough so they don't hit your leg. I am looking for the adjustable passenger foot pegs had them on my last two and the wife likes them. Can't seem to find anybody who makes them, yet.

Took a ride the other night on an interstate, at 80 miles per hr there is no comparison. Hands down much smoother then the batwing. Wife complains about the heat on her right leg, has anyone removed the cat from the head pipe? Is there a noticeable difference?

Nick, that's a common change but heads you toward needing a fuel tuner of some kind.  There are lots of catless head pipes available.  You'll find Fullsac and V&H power duals very common here.  I had a FuelMoto SS head pipe from an earlier bike so used that.  You can even buy stock head pipes with the cat removed or remove the one out of yours if good with cutting and welding.  I've always been one to keep the stock parts for later use.   I think heat is better but you still have a large mostly air cooled motor and exhaust pipe under you.
