Chrome Heel Guard
« on: June 30, 2015, 06:14:37 PM »

Anyone put right side heel guard on a '14-'15 model CVO Limited or CVO RGU.  One pair of my riding boots have a very soft rubber sole and I keep getting melted rubber sole on the exhaust heat shield just behind the right floor board.  Did some searching and best thing I could find looked like the ones from heelguard.com but not sure they fit our boards. Also saw some flat plate ones on Eglide.  Please do not suggest floorboard spacers to move boards out as I did that on a prior bike and do not like the reduced lean angle.

I've had good luck with the Brukus Boot Shield (www.brukus.com) - fastens using the bolt under the floorboard. May be worth checking into for your application.

Thanks, had not seen that one in my search.  Photo by Kiro is exactly where my boot is hitting the rear cylinder pipe.  Like that it does not appear to require drilling of the floor board pan.   Like this better than the two I found earlier.  Need to be sure it fits the late model boards.  Looks like they currently have a $10 discount for CVO.

On a positive note I found a good product for removing the boot rubber off the exhaust.  Happened to try the Goof Off Pro which seems to be something like an acetone and rubber comes right off with just a light cloth.  Someone warned me it dissolves powder coat so need to be careful with it.  Does not seem to harm the chrome but would rather not have to keep using it.

Kiro, nice looking product, but I would be concerned about catching my chaps on something like that. That is why I removed the rear shifter arm before I even picked my bike up. Of course I realize it is on the opposite side of bike, but anything like that could be a negative if you got into a situation where some quick braking or in my case shifting was needed. JMHO based on experience.CAHDBIKER

I can understand that possibility but my experience indicates you'd never even notice the boot shield was there. Mine is tight to the pipe and out of the way - never had a snag or other issue.

That's nice looking - don't know if I've seen one.

Like both the Brukus and HD.  The one from Heel Guard is a rod that would probably be more likely to hang clothing or boot laces than these flat plates.  Thanks for info as I was not aware of either of these.  The HD is actually cheaper.

Just for follow up, picked up the HD version yesterday and after removing my floorboard realized the 2015 RGU board support plate is very different than the 2014 CVO's.  The 2015 does not have a full pan that the cushion sits in, its a partial support pan and the cushion floorboard is its own heavy metal piece that sits on top of it.  At any rate it does not fit so I'll be returning it and trying the Brukus.
