Easy start Cams
« on: July 06, 2015, 02:56:43 PM »

Can anyone tell me if the Easy start cams from S&S are any noiser than their standard counter part? Looking to use a set of MR103's in a build this winter.

When you turn the ignition off, you may hear the arm make a little noise, occasionally.
Import bikes have had them for years and the V-Rod's have always had that feature.

Same. As you know many things play a role in valve train noise, but all being equal no difference between the 2.

I have a set of 585 ES cams in my 2010 and they make a nasty clanging sound at idle.  Was thinking of spot welding the rockers on them and re activating the auto de comps to get rid of that noise. Would not buy them again.

I would skip the easy start cams, especially if you have compression releases in your heads.  I think the V-Rods dropped their easy start feature in 2008 and they run around 11.2 to 1, and most stroked/big bore Vrods are at 12 to 1. (prior owner of 3 V-rods)

have a set in my 06 ultra. cant hear any difference over what was stock other than being ever so slightly more valve train noise due to the large lift they have vs stock cams. I would definitely buy another set for another motor!!

Once installed and you hear a wild gonking sound at idle ( sounds like a con rod bearing starting to go) That would be the de-comp mechanism rattling. I hate it.

We use them quite often here, and only upon occasion is there a noise, and that is on engine shut-down only.
