Wet head fan question?
« on: July 08, 2015, 09:34:56 AM »

Ok I was bored yesterday waiting for the wife who was in WALMART SHOPPING wwway to long.

I had the bike ignition on and twisted the throttle and held it and on came the fans. Then when I did it again it stopped. Just wondering if there is a purpose for this.....and btw does anyone know what situation starts the fans? eg. engine temp or ambient temp.....

just curious.

Oh it is definitely Engine Temp. The bike has two temp sensors. One is for the heads and that is the one that controls the fans. My fans have only cut on a few times since I have had the bike. And I have had to add coolant to the reservoir once already.

That's a test feature as someone posted in here a while back. It's in one of the manuals. Seems my left side comes on around 80* ambient and my right fan when it's really hot.

"Basic Operation
The coolant pump will run at all times when the engine is running. Operation of the fans is based on vehicle speed and coolant temperature threshold.
The fans will run after engine shutdown until coolant temperature reaches 203 °F (95 °C), or
three minutes, whichever occurs first."

See the attached tech tip.
