Changing Speedo Backlighting - 2007 SERK -
« on: July 13, 2015, 11:50:41 AM »

So I was thinking about changing the color of the backlight in the speedo to a blue color.  To kind of match the color of the bike.  Has anyone done this here?  I was curious what kind of lights were used.  I am guessing the lighting is done with LEDs?
Thanks

I don't know about the 2007, but the CVOs in 2008 have sealed speedo and tach units at least on the CUSEs.  When the LED light burns out, you replace the speedo.  I don't know if there's a way to cut out a section to get to the LED without destroying the unit, but I didn't see an obvious one when I was converting the small gauge bulbs to LED.  It looks to me like it would be a poke and hope at best, unless you can get a bad one to dissect and see if its possible.  If it is at all, you're  looking at microsurgery and a rigged up solution on that unit to do it.

Thanks for your reply! I have seen a few videos on how to open the sealed units and even how to change the LED's, but I was hoping a member would have already done this.  I am solder savvy so I am not intimidated by that aspect so I might disassemble this evening and just take a look at whats involved.  If I DO decide to tackle it, I will be sure to make a video and take pics...

Excellent!  I do electronic work (hobby, not pro), but if it doesn't come apart with screws I don't open it.

Thank you.. Yea I seen that site, but I like to tinker anyway, so I figured I would give it a shot myself and save myself 175.00 :)
