Aftermarket XM Antenna
« on: July 15, 2015, 12:24:07 PM »

Has anybody used an aftermarket XM antenna? Did it work better than stock? I relocated the antenna to the top of my fairing but wonder what options are out there for even better reception.

Thanks!

Yes I did, Last year I purchased a Automotive Micro dot antenna with an 8 inch lead and a Farka to SMB connector. This drastically improved reception as I could not move the antenna outside with my fairing bags. I cannot comment on whether or not it's better, but it was a significant improvement. I think in total I had about 40.00 in the set up.

I need advise:

I'm setting up to move my Garmin 665 Zumo back and forth from my FLHXSE3 to my Multistrada.  I know I need the cradle, wiring harness and Ram Mount.  I also need an XM antenna for my XM subscription on the Garmin.  What XM antenna's will work?  Is the Garmin GXM 40, the only antenna on the market that will work?  Why are they so crazy ass expensive?  I think this system will work, there is no audio on the Multistrada.  Any advise from the audio/nav guru's is welcome.

Thanks,

Ryan

Question:

Is the identification number for XM radio, generated by the Garmin Zumo 665 or is it generated by the GXM 40 antenna.  If I place a different antenna on my second bike, will I need two XM subscriptions?  I hope not, but I'm sure someone on here knows the correct answer.

Thanks,

Ryan

If I remember correctly it is by the GXM 40... there is nothing in the Zumo itself other than the ability to recognize (and receive what the) GXM 40 antenna receives.
