High speed induced wobble
« on: July 21, 2015, 08:37:44 AM »

I recently installed new tires on my 2007 SERK, and now at 70+ MPH it feel like the slightest wind buffet makes the bike feel like its doing the famous death wobble. It always rights itself, and doesnt get any worse, and it is almost like the steering is way to sensitive.  We have checked tire pressure, alignment, front end swing test, etc.  Cant find anything wrong.  It very well could be the nature of the critter.  Anyone have any ideas?

if, you have checked everything and the bike did not have the wobble before the tire change I would try a new tire.

Well, I found a thread that explained that the alignment cams on my rear wheel my not be aligning as they should be...so I will be doing a more accurate alignment check this evening...I suspect that could be an area of concern...

Did you install the same tire as previous? Or take a chance on something you thought was better? Make sure you didn't install a Radial. You can ride with one bias and one radial but it can be unnerving until you get used to it.

The 2007 FLHRSE3 came stock with radials front and rear, D408 - 130/70R18 front, D407 - 170/60R17 rear.  What brand and size tire did you have installed?

I have installed Pirelli Night Dragon tires of the correct size.  Radials of course.  The front tire is really noisy riding upright...I'm going to check the alignment the correct way this evening and report back...

I meant to say Bias, I knew this had radials and I was wondering if you bought one Bias by mistake.

UPDATE:  After checking everything, I was wrong.  The wobble is still there.  It is buffet induced.  Wasnt there before the tire change.  I do have a question about Steering Neck Bearings.  When I so the side to side sweep, I only get 1 and a half sweep.  So from total left, it goes to total right, then half back to center and stops.  Bear in mind, I have not unhooked any cables.  I guess the next thing I will be checking is the swingarm I guess.. unless you guys have a suggestion...
Thanks
Glen
