Even if it has Internet Connectivity unless it connects to a service like U Connect it won't be a danger.    The amount of time it takes to connect through a wireless system is less then the time a bike would be in range.  You'd need a hacker spending hours riding within a few hundred feet of you to hack a connection.

My understanding of the jeep hack was it was carried out form home by hacking the U Connect service and then connecting to the jeep through that.  Harleys Infotainment system does not support a remote management console to unlock the doors when you lock your keys in or tell you when you need an oil change.  So until they come out with a new system your safe.  If that follows typical HD state of the art mandates and time frames we should have internet right about the same time we're born with it already integrated into our brain.
That may already be here... it may be inpregnated into the "MoCo Kool-aid" that some have drank. ;) ::) :P :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

I for one have been Hacked. (Not in the sense of taking control but never the less hacked for theft)   I had my Ford work van stolen 2014 model. When I noticed  the van was gone at 10:30pm on a Sunday evening I obviously had the old Bill show up and I had said I don't understand how they got it. There's no broken glass of breaking in to it. That's when the cops informed me YOUR VAN WAS HACKED most likely of course my reply is "what do you mean hacked" The new ford vans with 6 speed gear box and turbo engines are hot on the theft list. The thief's pick out the van sit up the road and hack your fob frequency when you lock it up. It's not too be seen again.
So it opens up a new avenue for thieves they don't even have to be  near the vehicle. They can drive it away by remote

Sucks they got your truck man.  Hope you either got it back, or at least had an easy time with the insurance.

But to clarify what the cop told you that I highlighted above... Umm. No.  With a frequency scanner they can detect and duplicate the codes your fob sends.  Or many other brands and models too.  Once that's duplicated they can walk up to your car with a device cloning the signal sent by your fob.  This allows them to push the start button and drive off.  Behind the wheel.  Not by remote control like a James Bond movie.  These really cool push button start cars (and bikes!) are making it easier for thieves.  But its signal cloning, not hacking.  And its not allowing anyone to drive anything remotely.

I understand what your saying, about the signal being cloned. The term hacked being a electronic gismo term of accessing an electronic device illegally  ( an electronic technician I'm not)  being via air wave or cable as far as I'm concerned, you've been hacked. Don't know I may be totally wrong in my way of thinking.

Regarding the line you high lighted. Sorry I guess I was misleading, I didn't mean to refer to my van. I was meaning  in regards to the smart cars as in the video.

No I never saw the van again It was not only the van there was also my work tools and van stock. My work was doing mobile break down  mechanical service repairs.  It set me back big time, took months for the insurance pay back.

Ugh, that's horrible.  Bad enough to be a victim but when it impacts your ability to earn a living and the idjuts you give a crap load of money to on time every month take months to pay up on the policy...  :soapbox:

I wasn't trying to be picky by the way.  I was just trying clarify how the technology works.  I've had a lot of conversations with people who are now paranoid asking me (because I used to be IT) and they don't understand what's really happening.  The scary part is any remote key fob or transmitting remote entry can be cloned.  There's technology that I do not fully understand where it uses different signatures and encryption that means "hacking" the signal would only work for that instant.  But I've yet to see a listing of who uses it and who doesn't. In IT we never say anything that's transmitted or connected is secure.  Eventually the encryption can be figured out and broken.  You just have to hope that your device is the one that's harder so they'll move to the easier targets.  My guess is the new HD keyless ignition is using only the latest state of the art technology ensuring no one can clone the signal and steal those bikes.  Cause that's how they roll.  I can't believe I was actually able to type that.  ;D

I have a Nissan Rogue that's keyless.  But there's never anything in it that I care about.  Pure transportation.  My truck and bike both need a key (As long as I choose to lock the ignition on the dresser).  I feel a lot better since the truck is frequently parked with my camper attached and my bike is... well. My bike!!!

The speed that all this "so called new technology" is coming out at, six months down the road the new is becoming out dated. The days coming you'll have to have a code to flush the can.  :confused5:

Every vehicle I have (except my 1980 750K) has a fob. The next great thought is all of these vehicles have the garage opener built into the vehicle so they can now easily get into the house once they are into the vehicle.  It is east to find out where the vehicle is located at. Isn't it great!  I do miss the old days sometimes!

Here is an example posted today about the hacking of OnStar:
Hacker shows he can locate, unlock and remote start GM vehicles

I would expect these type of stories to appear on a regular bases.
