Hoist I am gald you are taking the plunge. Look real hard at all of the evidence then when you are finished BUY THE THUNDER MAX!!!!!

Terry good post way back. The only problem with the SERT and PC combined is the cost. You stated 700 to a grand. You can buy the Thunder Max for 749.00 with the Auto Tune. I promise you won't go wrong and not need any dyno time. I have witnessed the T Max in operation on the Dyno. It makes changes to the A/F ratio faster then Bobby could even think about doing it.

It is the real deal.

No doubt about it, Michael...but it would be "safe" if one was concerned about redundancy.  No doubt in my mind that I will be going with a closed loop when the time comes for me to make the changes to my motor.  Don't know right now when that will be, but no later than next year this time, IF I don't do an intermediate step... ;)

Mike, thanks a lot for your guidance on this. You and Rhino (and all you others too) were extremely helpful in getting me to "see the light". My friend's already a Zipper's dealer so he can get what I  need. He said he'd put on whatever system I want. He makes some good points on both. I'll be sure and have some really engaging discussions with him about both systems. Ultimately, I'll be going with the one that I believe he's most comfortable with. He's doing the tuning, so the tool should be what he can get the most out of. And I'm not gonna worry about chit breaking either. If it breaks, I'll fix it!!! Thanks again Mike. ;) Hoist! 8-)

Howie,
So imagine my surprise when I started reading this thread today :o.  But I tend to agree with you.  Only thought I have is that somewhere in this plethora (how you guys like those big words???) of information, I recall someone saying something about the SPOs not working well with TDs.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Tried to find it, but so far, no luck.  Any thoughts on this??
I also like what Terry said - "ride the bitch" - sounds like the right answer to me [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].

Yeah Tony, finally woke up. I never heard that about the SPO's. S&S claims to prefer crossover headpipes for stock engines, but they state that larger engines could require "custom" headpipes for best performance. The bikes I've seen them on are TD's. They flow excellent, so I can't see them causing problems. I guess we'll see!

And you're all exactly right. Needs to be done so you can "Just ride the Bitch!" ;) Hoist! 8-)

DAWG, question about the TM.  Does it monitor sensors like the stock ecm?   Will it throw error codes that are like those from the stock ecm so you'll know what is going on?  If a wb 02 sensor goes will it throw a code to alert you?

Thanks

I have a SERT in both Elvis and LD. I have no complaints. That says a lot coming from me  :D
Elvis runs like a damn Swiss watch and I expect once I've had the 2nd dyno done on LD it will be the same.

Just my $0.02

B B...there's nothing to complain about with a well tuned bike with either a SERT or PCIII on it.  Like you, I'm happy with the way mine's running right now...only when I consider making changes to the engine will I go with a closed loop system, just to be done with having to tune/retune.  One thing that will really be nice on these new ECM systems is the ability to change things up on the bike, or for fuel economy at certain times, etc.  The bike tuning itself all the time is appealing to me.

Terry, you'll be able to do that with the PC shortly from what I understand. I'm going to my friend's shop this afternoon. I'll try to get a good overview of the latest PC upgrades. I'll let you know. ;)  8-)Hoist!

Terry,
I'm with you. I'm very happy with the way my bike is running right now, but in the future, if I decide to put new cams in or some other mod to the engine, then I may also opt to put the zippers closed-loop system on too.  But for now, the SERT'd ECM and the setup I have, is working for me. 8-)

Thanks Terry, it appears this moving target has changed again. So, first let me go on record right here and now, Screw HD's engine warranty!!!  Warranty be damned! Full speed ahead!!! ;) Hoist! 8-)

Wow, gone for awhile and the earth suddenly spins the other way on its axis!  Holy poop.  This is, like, momentous.

Howie, by the way man, I was always in your corner man.  Publicly supported the whole "I'll never change it" mantra.  Admired your will power, etc etc etc.  But with this little mea culpa of yours I, well......, I also just won ten bucks  [smiley=drink.gif] ;D .

Actually..... yeah  ;D .  At least a little bit.

Most important thing, however, (aside from the ten buck sidebet) is that you're happy with the choice and that it runs out great on the bike.  Everything else is secondary.  Do the machine like it makes you happiest.  The rest is just wasted space pal  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .

Hey Don, welcome back. Hope you had a good trip (see you next fall!). I'm glad i made ya the 10 bucks and sorry to the guy that lost it. When I had it all figured out, they had to start another thread about ECM mods! That, coupled with my friend's input after getting back from the latest PC traing, made me realize that I should treat this bike like all my other ones, and do WTF I want to it. I hadn't had many w.....ty issues before and they've all been handled. So I finally realized, why play games with this. I'll do what I want with it and ride the chit out of it! If it breaks, I'll fight with HD or fix it myself, depending who's fault it is! At least my bike will be running great and I won't be thinking about anything outside that! I still haven't made a decision on which system. I need to talk with him some more. Weather's going back to crap here, so it might be a little while longer, but I'll be done soon. ;) Hoist! 8-)
