exhaust suggestion
« on: July 24, 2015, 12:12:17 PM »

Any suggestions regarding replacing stock exhaust I would like to open up the performance a bit on the 2015 Street Glide but I don't want a really noisy exhaust system perhaps something the would get rid of the catalytic converter.....

S & S head pipe and V & H Monster Rounds. Nice and deep and not too loud...but makes some noise when you get on it.
Went with the S & S because they were the tuner's preferred head pipe.

As a member of the Fullsac fan club, I can unequivocally suggest their products.

Get rid of the restrictive head pipe and catalytic converter and then choose baffles that suit your taste.  Combined with a TTS you can get a very good tune without the added expense of Dyna runs/tuning of goo all the way.

Search the many postings on this board for the subject and you will see that it is a very good setup and very price competitive with other solutions.

I have a 2015 SG, went with the Fulsac DX pipe and Kuryakyn Crusher slip ons. Tuned with TTS Master tune. Enough noise when I want it, and still quiet enough while cruising to hear the tunes.
If you remove the cat from the system, you should have your bike retuned. If you just do slip ons, no need.

What's loud?  On these bikes, the exhaust blows out behind you, so (to me) it's never loud....and I have Power Duals and 4" Rineharts!

Thanks for the suggestion I'm leaning toward True Duels and perhaps Rineharts. The convertor has to go......

The options I considered:

1) Fullsac Headers & Stock Mufflers
2) Fullsac Headers, Stock Mufflers with the Fullsac Baffles
3) Fullsac Headers & Supertrapp Fatshots (disc tunable)

I went with option 3 and SEPST tuner - currently running with 12 discs per side and happy.  Bit louder than stock but not offensive.

I didn't want true duals as accepted wisdom was that they hurt performance - tuners here in the UK agreed with this.  The fullsac headers  should be aiding performance, are stainless (helps with longevity) and ceramic coated to further reduce radiated heat a little.

The reason I went for the Fatshots was that they gave me options to adjust for a balance of noise/power by changing the number of discs and come MOT time I can take out some discs and make it nice and quiet (and completely legal).

Still tempted to do the Fullsac baffle mods to the stock mufflers and give them a try though.

Cheers

I also have a 2010 CVO Ultra, that has the Rinehart True Duals system from head pipe back. Its a true 2 into 2 system. If end result is to generate a number on a dyno, then a 2-1-1 system Like Fulsac, Fuel Moto or RC Components will net you a few more ponies on the dyno. IMHO nothing sounds better than a 2 into 2 system. Plus an added benefit is here in SW Fl the 2 into 2 system is cooler on the right side. Just did a ride to Key West and back to Cape Coral in July, bike was warm its 95 degrees, and 75% humidity. Rode my SG with the Fulsac DX pipe and Crusher slip ons back from the tuner up by Orlando about a 3 hr ride in 95 degree heat, and I swear the bike generated more heat. SG is a Rushmore, most say its cooler, but my experience is the air cooled bike was cooler. Both 110's, both tuned by the same tuner. Both have stock cams, just different exhaust.

NOT  True Duals!!!!   POWER DUALS!!! head pipe 2-1-2 system with Crusher Mellows 2" baffles.
If your looking for best bang for buck, use Power Duals, with Crusher Mellows, noise is kept down while cruising while still giving big benefits in torque and power after a full retune (not a dealer download).twinotter

I have a 2010 FLHXSE that I recently bought and is full stock. It's a great ride but too quiet for my taste. I had a set of Kuryakin Crusher trident tip slipons that I had purchased for my last bike a 2007 FLHX with a  96 inch motor. I never really liked them on that bike so just stored them in the garage for years.
I removed the stock screaming eagles on the CVO and tried the Kurys. Wow did they sound great! I did nothing else and the bike runs excellent with a deep low rpm rumble and a healthy snarl when I turn up the wick. I think the 110 motor brings out the sound the crushers were meant to give.
I don't know what hassles you get in the States from the police re mufflers but here in Ontario I have seen cops carry a 2 foot stick or rod and if it goes up the muffler without stopping you get written up for illegal unbaffled mufflers. Most good sounding mufflers are baffled around the core and are empty up the center like the crushers and many others.
I solved this by buying a stainless steel mesh tea ball at the dollar store. Made to steep loose tea in a cup of hot water, just open it up and separate and trim the 2 halves. Remove the black trident center piece from each muffler, insert the tea ball half with the convex side in and replace the trident piece. Instant stop for the cop probe!
Hope this helps!

A detail to check if looking at Rineharts. I had Rinehart True duals on my 2010. They looked sexy, but the pipe blocked access to the dipstick!

I run what twinotter suggested on my 08 with the S&S 124.  Don't agree with the what's loud theory, most likely sent in suggesting some humor.  If it's to loud it can definitely affect the pleasure during a long ride not to mention some hearing loss,  speaking from experience on the hearing loss.

I agree with Power Duals vs True duals. I have both (with Monster rounds) on 2 different bikes.
True duals are too loud on long trips and you will give up some power compared to the Power Duals.
FYI, if you get Power Duals, make sure you purchase the V&H foot board extension kit for CVOs (only $30.00) otherwise your right foot board mount will rub against the pipe cover.
Here is a picture of the setup on my 2014 CVO RK.
