Shortshots Staggered vs. Big Radius CVO Deluxe
« on: July 26, 2015, 04:34:43 AM »

I'm ready to get the V & H Big Radius pipes but I recently saw this pic.

Anyone know how performance / sound compares to stock pipes???

Feedback appreciated.

G'Day, I cannot comment on the performance, because I have those on my Sporty, but the sound is what a Harley is supposed to sound like..

Compared to stock -LOUD!!!  Performance of short staggered - LOUD!! Shorts almost always cause a loss in torque on the bottom end, especially with the baffles removed, which seems to be the way people prefer to run them. Shorts ar the street version of the old fashioned drag pipes, intended for WOT.
With shorts or mids, it all about the cool look, it has nothing to do with performance IMO. HD Vtwins like an exhaust that scavenges, any 2-2 system does not do that. Result, no real gains except LOUD!!  fwiw twinotter

If you haven't already, get on the V&H website and do the comparative analysis.  They have video files and so does YouTube.  I know, the sound isn't that great, but it'll give you some ideas.  Just listen through good speakers if you can.
I had staggered long shots on my Heritage, and loved the look.  Plus, I agree with Freestate above...a Harley on pipes like these sounds like what a Harley should sound like.

I had the staggered longshots on my Heritage too. The perfect pipe for that bike IMO.

Amen to that, brother!  The sound can't be beat, but the pipes are just long enough to not deafen you completely!!!

I've been reading on other forums several people having issues with the SS and their neighbours

Some have even resorted to wheeling their bike away from the house before starting it.

The Big Radius are apparently 'quieter' in comparison so I'm going to have to angle that path.

I have heard many bikes with both pipes,  the SS sound way better.   And,  they are not THAT loud.   I don't know why,  but every "radius" pipe I have heard sounded tinny.
