what kind of power can be made by bolting on a set of high compression pistons and slapping a cam in?  curious.   there is a bike here that is forsale with a 1340 evo.  JE HI Compression pistons, an Andrews cam of some sort, 2 into 1 pipe and carb tuned.

I am looking at buying the bike,  and he's advertising 90 plus HP from it.   I think that is optimistic...

For the record, we have a kit that we've built now for almost 20 years, that DOES show just about 100/100 with an 80" Evo engine.
Is it a bagger combo? Absolutely not.
FXR/stripped Softail, torque peak at/near 4200-4300, and hp signing off just about 6300.
With 3.37 gearing in a stripped down FXR, it'll eat a 110" CVO with mufflers/tuned, for a snack.

Yeah,  this is a pro street softtail.  Its just built in his basement,  tuned carb by him.   No porting etc done.  I think he's about 10 - 15 hp high on his estimate.   Just me however.

I  bumped my compression from 8.5 to 9.5 and put in a bolt in EV27 cam on my '86 tour glide and it really woke it up! It screams!


But I have to agree with others here. Make him show you the dyno sheet.

'99 FXSTC: carb needle change, single fire ignition, SE heads, Andrews EV27, Python ex with extra baffles for low end torque drop. Last dynoed years ago; 72hp/80 trq. No complaints, runs strong.      JoeS

I had a 1993 80" Evo, STD heads, JE pistons 10:1, Mackie .580 cam , S&S E, Supertrapp 2X1, Best it did was 89hp. Without head porting he's dreaming, if he knows it makes 90, ask for the sheet.

A 90/90 FXR with 3.37 gearing is a POTENT bike.
An 883-1200 XL conversion, with cams/heads marking say 85/85 (which is actually quite tame) and the OEM 27T 883 trans pulley is a VERY quick ride also.

I wouldn't use pistons with higher than a 10:1 compression.  Knocking will be an big issue especially with bad Premium gas.
Too high lift cam is harder on your valve train, long duration cams turn on at higher rpm. Most if your riding is 2200 to 4600 rpm.
Get a cam with a .530 to .560 lift, 240 duration  and intake valve closure about 42 degrees for good street performance.

I have a 1996 FXDL with a stock H-D  1340 EVO. I installed a set of SE 10:1 pistons, ported & polished my heads, it previously had installed an Andrews EV27 cam. It has 75hp/83tq and has about 20k since the motor work, 90k total milage.
