Brukus Saddle Bag Security Fasteners
« on: July 27, 2015, 06:27:05 PM »

I would like to ditch my stock saddle bag fasteners. I purchased some Hillman knobs from Lowes but they are rather large inside the bag and too long (1 3/4). Im looking at the Brukus parts and would like to know how far they extend out in the area between the bag and the fender mount. If anyone can comment and possibly supply a picture I would appreciate it!

Have the recall completed (if your bike is part of it) and use the Dzus that came with bike.

I have the Brukus hardware on my 11.5 CUSE and it doesn't extend into the area your talking about any further than the stock hardware did. The security hex bolts might make the removal of the bags for cleaning take a little longer but, IMHO the piece of mind they provide is worth it.

I went with these: www.baggerbolts.com .  You can't tell the difference unless you open the bags. With the lids closed it looks like stock. The hardware doesn't stick our between the bag and fender. The stuff is high quality, and the little ratchet tool that comes with the kit is small and light. I got the parts to close the recall, but they're still in the bag. I'm leaving the bolt kit on and passing the new clips on if/when I sell the bike or trade it.

No pics as I'm about 50 miles from my bike at work but I just installed the Brukus setup.  Discounts to members here and he responds to questions directly.  They were shipped the day I ordered and arrived in a padded and double sealed package.  No chance of a washer slipping out in transit.

They installed in less then the estimated 15 minutes and work perfectly.  They do not extend visibly beyond the replacement for the Dzus clip so until you try to jimmy them you'd never know it wasn't stock.  The bolt head on the inside is rounded so it's less likely the stock to catch and tear or scratch a jacket.  I added the special tool to my on bard tool kit so I can pop the bags wherever I am if I need to get to the wheel or feel the sudden urge to clean while on the road.

I installed mine because I've added a holster for carrying an item in my saddle bag that attaches by sliding the pin through the holster.  It would work fine in an unlined bag.  With the screaming eagle liners the Dzus pin wouldn't catch with the holster in place.  With the Brukus setup it's just long enough.  The added security is a bonus since the item in the holster is one that I feel most comfortable knowing its completely secured if I have to leave it in the bike.

Did the same on mine but no pictures.

Thanks for the info guys. This makes my decision a little easier. "Item in the holster", wonder what that would be!  ;)
