New trailer ready to go!
« on: July 30, 2015, 03:35:48 PM »

Since we are going to start being snow birds, I needed to buy a trailer to get the bikes out of Michigan this winter.  I went with a basic 7X14 and put BikerBars in it.  No more wheel chocks or straps for this guy!!

Nice indeed... I agree - BikerBars appear to be the way to go, really clean set up without tie-downs everywhere. I haven't used my trailer for sometime, but will be checking into these for when I do.

I would still put tiedowns on!!! I only use my trailer 3/4 times a year(to haul scoots), and like the idea of they are rock solid no matter what happens. What's an extra 30 mins each time I tow. Just got back from 4k haul for a trip.......checked scoots 4 times.

The BikerBar website shows a bike being held completely sideways with nothing but the Biker bar holding it.  No straps needed...  No Wheel Chock needed, thats way I bought these.....

How much steel did you put under the floor to support this deal? (any photos underneath) I can only assume you do not intend for the plywood floor to hold the weight of two Harleys?
This, strength wise would need at least a piece of steel twice the size underneath that is showing above floor, and the crossmembers in the newer motorcycle trailers are paper thin so they also would not hold the weight of the bikes,
I cannot imagine using this without tiedowns, really scary. At least the tiedowns would spread the weight and resulting pulling forces around the unit instead of just one spot.
I looked at this deal in Daytona a few years ago and asked the guy what you were supposed to do about support, he asked me why? I was amazed, he also laughed when I asked if anyone had done any mechanical calculations as to support and bracing. He then chose to walk away and take a break.

Try doing this with a Condor and straps!

A friend of mine lost his trailer in North Carolina. It broke the safety chain( yes just one) The trailer then went off the road into a swamp and flipped. The bike was tied down on a condor chock with 4 good tie downs. It did not break loose. I think I was more surprised then anyone. It happened around 5 in the morning and it was still dark. It appeared that someone didn't lock the trailer to the ball.

No matter what I still like the biker bars!!!!
