Tips to stop scraching of paint to side covers
« on: August 02, 2015, 12:53:48 PM »

Let me start my saying,..I love my wife to bits, but for some reason when she rides she can't seem to keep her feet away from the fuse cover panel and her foot wear is scratching up the paint. Short of foot removal or riding with out foot wear and of course not letting her ride which none of those are going to happen "if I want to live"
Has any one had this issue with passengers scratching up the side covers by their foot wear? Any thoughts or knowledge how to over come this (with out going into divorce proceedings)  Is there some sort of guard that can be added? Any help appreciated

This is a pic after to days ride. If you expand the pic you can see the marks clearer

If you're absolutely sure the bike is not more important than she is and that she can't be traded for a different model that won't do this I'd look for a set of the protective film for painted surfaces.  She'll still mark it up but she won't be marking up the paint; just the plastic protective overlay.  The stuff can removed and replaced at whatever interval becomes necessary.

Get her some fuzzy slippers? :nixweiss:   ;D

Another vote for some 3M paint protection film, or similar.

I have some clear plastic that covers misc parts. I think a shop that makes decals can make them and you can hardly tell there there. bike came with them but they were made by detail shop. There as clear as a phone cover

Maybe your scaring her and she tightens her grip with her boots as if she was on a horse.  Or maybe to slow and she is silently saying Getty up.

Cut her legs off from the knee down?

JK....get it fixed, it could probably buff out or at the very least, look better.  Then, I'd go to a 3M clear bra shop and have them cover it.

You can find it in small rolls, which should be fine for the side covers.  If you wanted to cover the entire bike, then one of the precut kits would probably be a better choice.

Try here:

Harley makes a protective  film that fits. I have it on the front of the saddlebags and the sidecovers. So far it's  protected the paint well.

This company's selection gives more complete protection than the Motorcycle Armor.

The film products are not cheap, but the do work well and look very good.

It's a very common product on this side of the pond.  If you can't find let me know.  Score some here and I'll mail over.

tape towels around her boots!! good duct should hold. Jerrys idea of fuzzy slippers will not protect her feet during an accident! :o  just kidding. I think the protective films should tame the problem of RLS.
