Any Botanists members here?
« on: August 04, 2015, 01:44:31 PM »

Are there any plant experts on this site? While roaming on the backside of a heavily wooded mountain area with my dogs, I came upon a large growth of these pretty little plants. I think they are ginseng, but need an opinion of someone that might know before I dig the roots - currently $1115 a lb. Did I find a new set of Mags for my scooter or not? Thanks!

How many plants did you find? After looking up ginseng on the web, from what I found that is not ginseng. Ginseng has 5 leaves on each stem 3 large and 2 small. Check on your states web page to see the rules for harvesting it. Most states have a minimum of 4 stems per plant to harvest and there is a season for harvesting.

Looks like a Purple Trillium.     Quick online search says native to eastern Canada and US.
