2006 Trans in 85 Wide Glide

Somewhere out there is another topic I started on this in which FR8TRN came through with a brand new 2006 5-speed gear set for my buddy Stoneman's 85 Wide Glide. I can't remember (CRS)where or what I called it, so I can't do a search. As such, I will start a new thread to continue the story. For those who missed it, Stoneman had gotten ripped off by a bikeshop to the stars place in Hollywood CA and I am trying to put it to rights. So, I had a SPUTHE 5 into 4 trans case that was intended for an EVO 5-speed with a smaller main shaft etc. I had General Machine Services here in San Diego machine the case to accept the larger bearing that goes along with the 06 gear set. The bearing was also thicker and would not allow for the snap ring that holds it in place, so I had it machined for a very tight press fit and then had 5th gear pressed into the bearing and the whole works pressed into the case. Worked like a charm the whole thing slides down over the rest of the gear set with the trap door seating in the dowel pins. Now, since the cost of the ball and ramp end cover is the same as a black hydraulic master cylinder and I have the rest of the controls from LD's makeover that nobody is interested in, I am going to make the clutch hydraulic. Between the trans and the primary I will go with an 07 32T trans sprocket since the bike had a late model narrow belt on it. ( hey I said it was weird didn't I? )  I also had a complete clutch and hub from an 01 Twin cam, sittin in a box gathering dust, so I only need to buy the outer shell. Bottom line here is Stoneman is going to have a 2006 tranny with a late model splined clutch hub hydraulically operated with brand new 07 handlebar controls. Since I had 1/2 a set of Stealth chrome pegs etc, I am buying the missing pieces and the bike when returned should look like a motorcycle version of Overhaulin. All for a cost to my friend Stoneman of $1,000. I know we all love our new bikes with a ton of OCD and everything, but there's a lot of folks out there like my friend to whom this old mongrel of a bike means as much as anything. It's a pleasure to me to be able to help out a friend like this and I thank FR8TRN for getting the project going with the gear set. The entire project contains parts from so many different years, that I am writing it up for Stoneman to keep should he ever need some work done and I'm not available.

Here was the original thread Brian.  Searched by "Stoneman."  Fortunately you'd mentioned his name the first time through so it popped up.

                That should work like Paul Harvey on filling in details. I went back and rereas that thread and noticed a post from someone asking for the name of the shop that hosed Stoneman. I'll ask him tomorrow when I tell him I need some more cash to buy the Stealth footpegs and handgrips (anyone got some used ones ? They were stock on all the 05 SEEGS) along with all of those other non-important parts - - - ring gear, tran sprocket etc etc    ;)
