Problems on the road, can anyone help??
« on: August 15, 2015, 03:54:12 PM »

Long story, short version. My HPI throttle body stripped a gear and left me stranded a couple years ago. Fixed it and been fine since. In Mooresville NC today 1000 miles from home and it's done it again. I have a spare OEM throttle body that I could have shipped in overnight Monday, but figured I would see if anyone had one close by. Shoot me PM. Thanks!!

I am down the road about 30 miles.  You are in a tough spot with all the shops being closed already. I don't have a TB and don't know anybody up that way but if there is something I can do I will try to help.

Terrible what happened to Don.

So Krypto....how did you make out?  Hopefully you're all fixed and back on the road.

yea sorry got beck home in NH late yesterday. So my bike HAD a 58mm HPI throttle body on it which has left me stranded twice. The first time I was 60 miles from home and I had a buddy come grab me with my trailer. The plastic gear that is connected to the throttle shaft stripped a couple of teeth. I sent it to HPI and had them fix it. Put it back on and the very next day I got stranded again. This time the throttle plate stuck closed. I was 100 miles from home this time. I was able to get the air filter off and rode the bike home with it off because every time I let off the throttle, the plate would close and stick. I ended finding out that the plate wasn't shimmed correctly and when the heat got to it, the expansion would cause the plate to stick. I fixed it myself by loosening the plate when it was up to operating temperature and inserting shims all around the plate to get it perfectly centered in the bore. Fast forward a year later to last Saturday, stuck in traffic on 77 north of Charlotte NC the plastic gear stripped again. 1000 miles from home!!! I went to Tilley and bought a brand new HD stock throttle body and tore down the bike under an easy up tent at my buddy's house I was staying at in mooresville. Got it all together and other than the bike won't idle when it's up to temperature, it runs good. I am blaming that on the tune because it was tuned with the larger throttle body and it is getting less air at idle. I did another 2000 miles between Sunday when I got it fixed and a week later when getting home yesterday with no other issues. I am gonna have my tuner tune it again with the factory throttle body and the HPI one is headed back to be fixed and then to eBay. Been a headache for the last time. The real kick in the a$$ is I had bought an used HD throttle body after it happened a year ago in the event it happened again. Had every tool I needed to change it with me, but that nice used throttle body was sitting on the shelf 1000 miles north!! Sorry such a long post!! Thanks for those that posted here and messaged me.  Remember I am in the NH/VT area, have a trailer, a garage with 2 lifts and a tool box full of tools if anyone ever gets stranded and needs any or all of the above to help them out!! :)
