If you're considering Motley crue, Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot AC/DC an some 70's Aerosmith as metal, count me in. throw in some Def Leppard, Poison, Van Halen and Ozzy.....then the wife will crank up the volume too  :2vrolijk_21:

Depends on your definition of metal.  I tend to gravitate towards Classic Hard Rock and heavy guitar rife.

I'm with phato1, plus Judas Priest , ZZ Top, Skid Row, Queen (their harder stuff), UFO, Michael Schenker, and King's X (the greatest band no one's ever heard of).  Add a few metal outliers like Satriani, Steve Vai, Rush, Tool, Giant, Rage Against the Machine, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Those would be a good start.

Definitely metal. The heavier the better, and I'm not talking about rock, which is also fine with me. I mean thrash, speed, power, and death metal.

Some cool bands listed above...for me, I pretty much love most music genres.  But Traditional HM runs in my blood. For starters, I'm Judas Priest fan for life, have been for 30+ years.  As I've gotten older, my taste has gotten heavier over the years.  Don't get me wrong, I love the 80's style Rock/Metal, but there are some bands that I would love to forget.  I used to run a CD Business out of my house some years ago (before iTunes), and I discovered many talented bands, and still follow their music today.  Most bands I listen too, you wont hear on the radio.  I'm not a fan of Sirus/XM's Boneyard...I mean really, how many times do you have to suffer with GnR?  I'm not a fan of Guns & Roses...over-rated IMO...but hey, that's another topic for discussion, lol
Anyway, play what you love.  You might find another fan while riding or at gatherings.  While I'm writing this, I'm jamming to ICED EARTH...A great American Metal Band.

If your in the Baltimore area this month...check out Ashes of Ares at Angels Rock Bar on September 11th.  Great band to see...very talented and professional band. Ex-members of Nevermore & Iced Earth.

Grave Digger & Blind Guardian are playing in October...yes, I'll be at these shows.

New Iron Maiden is being released this week...I hope its not disappointing like their last one. I hear good things about it...we'll see.

Ahhh Nevermore! Now that's metal. The stuff they put out at the end of the 90's and first half of the 00's was about as good as it gets. I saw the members when they were in Sanctuary in the late 80's or very early 90's.

I saw Sanctuary open for Megadeth & Warlock during the "So Far So Good... So What" tour...late 86 I'm guessing.
You know that Sanctuary released a new album? "The Year the Sun Died" Released Oct. 2014

You saw them early. Right after Mustaine gave them their break (thanks Dave for that one). I saw them after they put out their second full album, which was 1990. They were the third band out of four that night. The last was Fates Warning. The show must have been 90 or 91.

I feel like an outlier with my love of Dream Theater, Drowning pool, Amon Amarth, etc... in addition to all the other bands mentioned above. If the song has a killer guitar riff, I'm a fan.

Or should some of the bands above be classified as death metal?  :nixweiss:
