S&S High Performance Lifters Report
« on: August 31, 2015, 07:39:13 AM »

These are not the Premium lifters.

I just replace the S&S Hi-Perf lifters in my '12 CVO SG (with Andrews 57H cam) as part of my 25K service.  I put in CompCams' 850-1's.

These lifters have just about 17K or so on them and show no signs of wear.  No marks at all on any of the rollers.

My 110 motor was exhibiting a very annoying noise from about 1900rpm to 2100rpm, and again from 2800 to about 3100rpm.  Noise at 2800-3100 is diminished, but no change to the noise at 1900-2100.

I have purchased some AV&V valve springs and am waiting for an appointment with Steve at GMR to have my heads done.  Hoping that will kill all the noise.

If anyone wants these used S&S lifters and S&S standard adjustable pushrods drop me a PM.

Guess I'll keep them in oil and put them back in at 50K miles.

The Andrews 57h has a .560" lift. You should get  50k miles or more. I will be replacing mine with over 60k miles on them. They are still quiet. No tapping noise. I have a .585" lift  S&S cam

The CVO 110 motors have notoriously heavy valve springs.  Many folk believe they pound lifters into submission.  The S&S ones I took out I saved in a pickle jar full of oil, I'll put them back in at 50K.  Right now I'm having GMR do my heads, replacing those landing gear springs of a Space Shuttle with more appropriate spring rate springs.

Read this first. My bike is crazy load right now and seems to getting worse. Will be tearing it apart next week and doing this mod.  Not with lock tight but with the set screws. Will report back to the gang with results. Check.

It seems obvious to me that the noise your hearing was not lifters. I'd be checking the crank runout first!
Then the compensator/clutch/ IPB and tranny components. As other have found the rocker shafts an be fitted so loosely, hey rattle on the hold down bolts. The tolerance now exhibited by the new HD engines is pathetic in my mind. Good luck with your teardown, I sincerely hope you don't find anything major to be addressed. My faith in HD/its lack of quality controls/ and shoddy materials  are responsible for most of the issues everyone seems to have to address sooner or later.  twinotter
