Thought I'd jump in and introduce myself: New guy to the CVO Forum. Been over on Roadglide.org for a couple years and didn't even know this place was here until I saw it mentioned there! Anyway, onto me:
Riding over 40 years (GAWD, I'm getting old!) and ridden and/or owned most of the major brands except for Harley. Was just never a fan. Back in 2013 embarked on the search for the ultimate comfortable cruising motorcycle. Rode everything out there available to me but nothing clicked. Finally (reluctantly) tried some Harley's. First up, Fat Boy Lo (the only Harley I ever really liked the look of) - yuck. Awful ride like every Harley I'd ever ridden. Salesman asked what I was looking for, "ultimate 2-up ride comfort", and he points to the RGC (my absolute least favorite looking Harley). A half mile down the road and I knew I'd finally found the ride I was looking for!
Started researching. First up, Harley online catalog. Head over to RGC and the first thing I see is the RGC CVO in Roman Gold and Burnt Emerald and I am in LOVE. But I'm not in love with the price, especially because this will be an experiment to see if we like HD enough to overcome years of not being a fan. So I buy a Candy Orange RGC. We mod it only lightly (seat, windshield, handle bars) and ride it for two years until warranty is expired. We decide we really like the ride and renew the warranty for three years last fall with the plan to more heavily mod it this year. I'll want to do a bunch of things, Stage Two, LED lights, Daymakers, color-matched inside fairing, better shocks. Basically about $5k of work minimum.
Stopped into local HD this spring and sitting there is the RGC CVO that I fell in love with. Some fool traded it in on a 2015 RGU CVO. I do some research on current sale prices for stock '13 RGC's and then start to deal with salesman. To my surprise they give me pretty much the going rate for private sale on my '13. They drop the price of the '13 CVO and then they throw in 3 years of warranty and 10 years free service. The deal is made. I strip off the goodies I put on the old bike and by April 15th I'm riding the CVO.
The wife and I could not be more happy with this bike. We love the look, love the ride, love everything about it. It already had some additional toys on it - V&H Power Duals, SERT, Rhineharts (took those off, put back on stock pipes - don't like loud pipes!). We added a LePera Maverick seat, MadStad 13" clear windshield, tall passenger's backrest, Sanchos Wings, Kuryakyn ISO grips and Scythe black mirrors. My old bike had 12k on it and this one barely 8k so overall we made out. For the extra $5k we would have had to spend we got a CVO with all of that plus more.
Anyway, thought I'd say hi and tell our story. Been riding a lot of us and now we have 15k on the bike and it purrs like a kitten. Not sure what else I might do. Pretty much happy with where it's at, at this point. I'll post some photos from my phone via Tapatalk.
