New seat or not new seat?
« on: September 02, 2015, 09:22:58 AM »

I am thinking about getting a reduced reach seat from the MOCO for my 2010 Ultra. I need to get a little lower on the bike since I am vertically challenged. I stopped at the dealer yesterday on my way home from work and looked at the demo seats they have. Damon behind the counter recommended the Reach Seat. Anyone have any experience with these seats? Any thoughts?

no but a lot of dealers will let you demo a seat you know take it for a spin back in the old days you had to buy it first lol but you could just have your cut down to size there are a lot of people doing that you may look for a local custom auto or bike shop that may know someone to do it for you might save some money and if they screw it up you really ain't out nothing winter is coming so you have some time

I did look at the demo seats but my bike was at home at the time. I also talked to a local upholstery shop on the phone. I'm going to take him my seat and see what he can do with it and what it will cost. I will also try the demo seat before I make a decision.

Just some thoughts:  If you really want to change out the seat, consider an aftermarket seat from Corbin, Mustang, etc.   You may also want to consult with an upholstery shop which can restuff the stock seat to achieve whatever you want.

I have talked to a local upholstery shop but only on the phone. they are usually closed by the time I get home from work. I like the work Mean City does and it seems like they really have a good system in place. I will consider them for sure.

If you like your seat other than being too tall, it's cheaper to have yours modified. Problem is that you're without a a seat to go Riding untill it comes back. Most good upholstery shops can do it while you wait. Sit on your bike and figure where you want foam removed and where you want it added. For mildly modified seat you can use same cover or they can alter and restitch it.

I modified mine myself. I added  some and removed some. Added 2" in mid/rear of seat and cut 1" from front,  put a bag over it and rode it 100 miles to see if it's what I wanted, then had the vynal reworked

Yesterday I went to the local HD dealer and got a demo model of the Reach Seat. Took it home, put it on and climbed aboard.
First impression: I love the height and the way my feet were firmly planted on mother earth.
Second Impression: My wedding tackle was mashed against the gas tank and doesn't feel like it will be very comfortable any ride over 50 miles. Especially if the roads are a little rough. And trust me, here in Michigan we have some seriously jacked up roads. I've seen potholes big enough to have their own zip code. I'm can't understand why these seats from the MOCO have to push you 2 inches forward in order to move you one inch down. What's wrong with just one inch down? I can reach the controls just fine, it's the ground that's the issue. Not sure how this is going to work out. I have a ride planned for tomorrow, hope this demo seat doesn't cut it short. I will let you know.

Exactly the problem I had so I shipped my reach seat to mean city cycles in Boone, NC. They took some of the forward positioning out and installed memory foam. No jewels on the gas tank and I comfortably ride 600 + mile days.

Well, I did 200 miles yesterday with the demo seat and my wife said it way more uncomfortable than the stock seat for her and I agree. Too close to the tank but the height is good for me. No room at all for the male anatomy. This one is going back tomorrow. Looking into a Mustang. Maybe some others as well. The option of modding my stock seat is still on the table as well.

I just ordered a Mustang Regal Touring seat for my bike. The Hammock seat is ok for an hour or two but my ass starts getting tired after that. I tried my RZ seat but on this bike it just doesn't quite work for me. I kept the RZ seat off mt 12 RGU when the trade was made. I'm having a hard time finding a seat for "me" on this bike.

According to the local upholstery shop there isn't much that can be done to my stock seat. The foam in the thigh area is so thin cutting it down won't make any real difference. And if they do cut it down I will lose the heating element for sure. So.... I am now looking into a set of Progressive shocks that will lower the rear end about an inch. If this doesn't work I have another option for a seat from Ultimate Seats in Fla. They will actually let you ride around on the seat for 2 weeks and return it of you don't like it. Every other place won't take it back if you've used it. How are you supposed to make such an important decision, not to mention an expensive one, if you can't try it out?
