Suggestions for selling my SEEG???
« on: September 03, 2015, 11:04:35 AM »

 :soapbox:
I tried ebay, and Craigslist, and Chopper exchange with no luck other than a couple of scams to get the bike.
So if anyone has a riding buddy that is looking for a bike please refer them to my classified ad just posted. I took out the bike for the last time Sunday, and need to sell the bike and all my extras and gear. I realized on the last ride that it is time to give it up due to my age, and inability to handle the heat when riding. So I think I have it at a good price, and hope someone on here may be interested. It is a 2005 FLHTSE2, yellow, and lots of good performance mods. I have it below book and throwing everything else in to eliminate me from thinking I should buy another bike. My phone # is included, so give me a shout.
If you have any suggestions on how to sell the bike I am all ears. I just find it hard to believe that people would buy a used bike that is stock to save a couple thousand dollars, and then spend a lot more to bring it up to the standard of this bike. :nixweiss:
Have we reached a point where the only way to find a buyer for a limited production CVO is to literally give it away?
Would I be better off to strip off all the mods, sell them each as parts and drop the price a couple thousand???? :nixweiss: I don't really know what to do, but I don't want to sell it so cheap that I get a buyer that is just looking for a flip. The bike deserves someone that will keep and ride it with pride as I have, hell I spend $13,000 to give it its own building to be kept in.
Am I being unrealistic to think that a CVO should bring a price higher than the comparable year/model not CVO???
OK, I am done preaching, any input will be respectfully appreciated.
And, btw, thanks guys for over 10 years of give and take on this site. And for those of you that don't know, I am the  guy that designed our first business cards that we that ordered them gave out to friends and other riders to let them know about this site. I will miss all of you, and will probably check in now and then to see the "rants and raves" :trailer:

Is there a shop that will sell it on consignment? You'll probably lose a little vs selling it yourself, but at least you'd be rid of it.  I've always found selling something to be a PITA.  Good luck.

Local Harley shop doesn't do it, and even if they did, it is such a small town, I doubt it would make any difference. What I am willing to sell it for should make a difference, but even on this site, after 50 views, no offers.

Some of those views are spam bots that hit the page when someone types whatever into a search bar.

Others are just curious to see what's for sale. Good luck and sorry to hear you feel it's time to move on.

Sorry for your leaving the sport of riding, I know that had to of been a hard decision to make.
Maybe if there is a large city to you with a larger Harley dealership they would take it on consignment, the time/money to transport may be worth it? A dealership of any kind would increase exposure and may help with financing a loan to buy your bike. As well as filter out scammers.
Another option would be to use it as trade in for something besides a bike such as a new car or boat etc. You may get slightly less for it but in long run be getting something that may be easier to get rid of down the road.
Unfortunately you never get what you paid for in chrome and other mods when selling. Also the yellow is pretty color but could limit sales too since you have to find the right person that likes a bright color Harley. Then with the 2016s out you have to realize that your bike is now 11 years old and many buyers are wanting larger 110 motor and all the bells and whistles of a 2016 with a warranty. It is late in riding season for some parts of the country and sales could be slowing down somewhat and the dealerships are optimistic on the 2016s and they may balk some at getting a used bike that may sit all winter too.
Good luck with your efforts to sell.

A lot of reasons it has not sold yet. The economy is not good. The market is now flooded with used bikes. In 2009 Harley changed the frames on the touring bikes and they really are that much better to ride. In 2014 Harley changed the suspension in the front of the touring bikes and yes there is a big difference. The new bikes have so much as far as electronics. I have not checked the book so I can't really say about the price. Yes it is a collectable bike but it is also 11 years old now. In 10 or 15 more years it will be something people would be looking for.

Good luck on the sale.

You could also consider a large auction like Mecum or Barrett-Jackson they auction off bikes as well as cars and trucks. You could set a reserve if you are firm on your price.

Another problem all private sellers face is almost anyone (except a crack whore) can walk into a stealership with 1000 bux and ride out on a spankin new scoot. If they want your scoot........gotta have a fist full.

I think all the advice is spot on.  I hate selling as well but if I want something to move regardless of "market" value you have to deal with "reality" value.  Adjusting the price is what will make the sell.  You have to ask yourself how bad (what will I get) do I want move it now vs waiting for a better buyer, better time of the year, better economy, etc.

try
www.cleanharleys.com

I bought my first CVO from them and they seem to flip the CVO's pretty quick there
I think they would take it on consignment? you tell them how much you want,
and if it's like the cars I've put on consignment it takes about 45 days
plus they do all of the posting of great ads everywhere and do all of the selling,
just send you a check
you may have to take a little less than you want but, it sure is worth not having to deal the hassles of everyone trying to bet you up.

your bike won't have any problems selling

being in Arlington I'm sure they have arrangements to pick it up?

I personally would not do Auctions, it's always a buyers market, plus the fees and commissions you have to pay

All good points. I'm just not sure how much lower I have to go to make the price attractive. Under $16k, with all my gear being thrown in, and all the multiple pieces, I would think is more than fair.
Maybe I should lower the bike another $1000 and sell the $600 dollar seat, the $400 Airhawk cushions, the $400 Harley raingear, the $250 bag inserts, the $900 gear set, the $200 inner primary, the brand new in box Sabre grip set, etc, etc, to make up the difference +. I just thought putting it all in a box with the bike would sweeten the pot. :stars:

I really hate to see you have to sell it.  We communicated last, before the GTG in Ouray and you mentioned that you thought this was coming.  I can relate to how the heat affects you more and more each year.  At 60 yrs. old it didn't bother me much at all but this last four years it has really started affecting me.

For those members that are newer here......Striker joined this forum back in 2005 and shortly their after designed the business card for CVOHarley.com    And, again, I thank you for that buddy.  :2vrolijk_21:

Wish you could have made it down to Ouray for the GTG in June.  Good luck in selling it.

Thanks for your positive replies, it wasn't an easy decision to make. I have been riding since 1964, and have seen both the good and bad periods for Harley. I owned one of the last true, original electra glides, (1969 Shovel, the first year they put a full fairing on them), and on to this last bike, my SEEG. I remember having to get your name on a list if you wanted a Springer Softtail, I suffered with everyone trying to keep the oil off the garage floor with the AMG bikes, and then listened with a smile, the sales pitch of the Anniversary models, and how they were going to actually go up in value. (I have some swamp land if any of you bought a '03 because of that pitch) to my '05 SEEG that I bought to take a stand against all the enthusiasts that wanted only black or dark bikes. (So they could look like a club rider I guess) I am proud of my "Yellow Fireball" and it still turns heads where ever I go.
Now the real question is why do I not see, on 52 pages of classified ads, any comments or bids indicated? Is anyone getting a response in this classified section?? :nixweiss:
As far as shipping my bike to a dealer, I really would have a personal issue with that since the closest major city is Denver, 250 miles away, and I really wouldn't be able to keep track of it. I did make a flyer this spring and took it to Harley here, and tho they don't do consignment they said they would hand them out in the sales meeting. I was offering a $500 commission to anyone that sent a buyer. Turns out none of them got the information.
I want to address one other misconception we all have, (including myself till now), that there is no value for add ons. Number one, go look at a used bike at Harley, and they will justify the higher than book prices by pointing out the very things they say have no value when figuring the value of your bike on a trade.
Number two, I had it pointed out to me by a car dealer that you actually do earn a value on add on items with Kelly Blue Book. If you go though the process with KBB and get to the page that gives you a value, their will be an option to add your options to the value. My options that I have receipts for would, in the opinion of KBB be valued at 24% of the receipt value. I think that is too high, but if I just add 10% of my options values my bike is approaching $18k, the reality is, unfortunately, that I will be lucky to get10% under book even with receipts for $12k in options.

If I don't get it sold, at 70 years old, I will probably enjoy it in the fall and the spring and a few time in the winter until I can't any longer.  My wife and I have been riding two up for 48 years, and that is the only way I like to ride, when I reach the point that I am concerned for her well being, it may become a garage queen, and some day a long time from now, someone will have gone into one of the out building, wonder what is under the old dusty cover, and discover a pristine, Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide, so bright that it looks like the day it was born! :orange: Perhaps they will do like I did when I found my '69 Glide, clean it up, don't try to change it much, and enjoy a little bit of the "good old days"

Yes, the selling board on this forum does work and it sells.  I've sold my 04 SEEG, my ex-wife's 09 Street Glide and my 10 SESG all on this forum.  :2vrolijk_21:

You may or may not remember but all three had a lot of work and a lot of extras and no, I didn't get what I thought they were worth and not even remotely close to what I had in to them......but just a tad bit above the current market and that was with all the goodies thrown in.

I'm sure your bike would be a deal for the right person.  It's got the most reliable motor that the MoCo has ever had and you've already done everything that needs to be done to it.  :2vrolijk_21:

This thread makes me want to run back to Colorado just to get a ride in with you and your wife before you sell it.
