2000 SERG ECM part number to replace stolen one
« on: September 03, 2015, 11:45:49 AM »

Damn thieves. Stole a box of Harley stuff I'd stored at my niece's house. Mostly just swap meet stuff except for an ECM and Power Commander I bought from Twolane as backup.  Little hope of recovery so I'm now looking for another ECM.  Parts info says 2000 & 2001 SERGs use #32462-00 ECM all other touring is #32423-99.  Do I have to find the SERG specific part or can I substitute the standard one since I'm going thru a Power Commander?   %&!*$ thieves!!

32462-00  and  32423-99B are now obsolete, but you can always try to find used ones.  If you can find either one, and that might be tough, all you need to upgrade the one for the regular 2000 FLTRI is the calibration file for the 1550 upgrade.  The following are the latest part numbers that replace those now obsolete part numbers:

ECM > 41000012A replaces both the regular 2000 FLTRI ECM and the 2000 FLTRSEI ECM (as well as the other EFI Touring models for that year).

Calibration CD > 41000013 replaces the specific download used back in 2000 to upgrade to the 1500 calibration.  Probably requires installation by a dealership.

The Power Commander doesn't replace the internal calibration file in the ECM, it just modifies the output of the ECM.  So yes, you will need the correct calibration file loaded in the replacement ECM for a 2000 FLTRSEI or you will have to have the PC updated (new tune) to compensate.

Buying a new ECM plus the calibration CD is going to be rather expensive, about $525 MSRP.  Since Harley still makes a part available that will work, having $500 sitting on the shelf "just in case" may not be the best use of $500.  But of course that is up to you.

Jerry,
Thanks for updated info. If I understand you correctly I have three choices to make a backup ECM:  #1 - Buy a new ECM and calibration CD, have a dealer load the info.  #2 - Find a used ECM (either old part # will do) load calibration CD info onto it.  #3 - Find an old ECM, use the Power Commander I now have & get a good tune.
Am I on the right track?

That's pretty much the three options I can come up with.  Back when the early EFI bikes were new, you had to buy a one time use calibration card for things like the 1550 upgrade for around a hundred bucks and then have the dealer install it.  These days they can just download the calibration files on the computer system and install them, but I don't know if they have access to those old files.  I'd ask before ordering a CD that you may not need, if you can find one of the ECM's for the TC88 version or buy the latest part number.

Check with Don (Twolanerider), he may also know of other options for that bike.

Scored an ECM part # 32423-99B at a swap meet this past weekend.  Actually bought an almost complete wiring harness, voltage regulator, speedometer from a wrecked '01 Road King for $81.  Swap meet was at Cyclemos in Red Boiling Springs, TN, a very interesting place specializing in antique Harleys. If you're riding near the TN/KY border I'd recommend a stop there.
