Would you buy a 2012 CVO Street Glide?
« on: September 04, 2015, 11:57:54 PM »

I'm looking at buying a used 2012 CVO Street Glide.    I've read some of the issues on the forum, but it sounds like mostly top end noise.  Will replacing lifters will solve that problem?  What do you guys recommend?  Anything else I should do? :huepfenlol2:

I just traded my 2012 SESG in for a 2015 CVO Limited. I had nothing but problems with the SG. Changed lifters still noisy.

It is a beautiful bike but had to put it behind me. For every horror story like mine there are ten good ones. If that's the bike you really want, go for it ! They are awesome bikes !!!!

There is used and there is abused.  If this is at a dealership I suggest you include an ESP in the deal.  Ask for the service records, and do as much research as possible.

Replacing the lifters is highly recommended by many of the tech experts here, I replaced mine before I had any issues. Try to get the lifters in the deal as well, the ESP will remain valid if you use SE parts, otherwise you may void the coverage.

It is difficult to suggest much more without additional information about what mods the bike currently has; test ride it, go over each and every switch and button, listen to the stereo, check each speaker, examine the tires for wear and/or replacement, spend time on it and around it, and take notes as you go.

Probably the last bike I will own.   Geting too old for this stuff, lol.

Love my 2012.  Only one thing wrong with it, and having that fixed as we speak.

If your prospect is still original, just change the lifters, have it dyno tuned and enjoy the simplicity of the pre-rushmore bike.

I'm having the valve springs replaced.  Did the cam and lifters already.  Replacing lifters is easier than replacing the back tire once you do it once or twice.  I'll change the lifter every 25k miles or so for something like $17 each.

Fit, finish, looks, sound, performance are all top notch in my experience.

To the OP, All joking aside, we love our 2012 CVO Street Glides!

Sorry for the thread Jack.

JC
The 120 was a little weak, going to wake it up a little. The Lower end is on its way to Tmans to get the crank lightened by a few pounds, new rods and balanced. Timkin in the case while its apart. 124" Nikisil cylinders. New set of TRs CNC heads. 62mm TB. Last but not least, TRs 725 lift cam. Just a few minor changes that should bump it up by 30 HP or so. Almost forgot, going chain drive too. Don't like walking home.
