Muffler Swap 2015 CVO SG
« on: September 05, 2015, 11:48:30 AM »

Looking to go to black exhaust on 2015 CVO SG.  Heard CFR mufflers at dealer, loved the sound. If I'm only swapping mufflers, do I need to update the tune? ( think I said that right). If so, does anyone have recommendation for tuner in San Jose CA area?  Lastly, how difficult is updating tune with aftermarket tuners?

Just swapping mufflers - you'll be ok...no retune necessary.  If you change the header then you'll need to address the lean stock tune.

I just went through this taking off my stock mufflers and installed the Vance & Hines Power Duels and Monster rounds with Fuel Pak 3 love'n it so far (woke the engine up a bit). Like the phone app and the ability to down load most what ever exhaust configuration you have plus they have something called auto tune that will fine tunes it to your bike as I understand it (probably don't).

If you are planning on doing more mods in the future I would contact a quality professional tuner like GMR Performance and speak to them about your muffler choice. You probably can get by without a tune with just a muffler swap but if you change the head pipe later it will need to be tuned and I have heard that the professionals don't like tuning the CFR MUFFLERS.

Changing mufflers will need a re-tune, especially with something like the CFR's. These bikes run on the ragged edge of lean from the factory and anything that you do to the intake or exhaust affects the fuel mixture and efficiency of the engine.
