OK, didn't need the detail, just added additional points to my pain tolerance scale in order to avoid joint replacement until it is at least to the level yours was.

Staples remind too much of times gone bye (for me) and I don't care if I ever see another.

So pleased that you are hard at the PT and mending well.

Don't get too overzealous on the driving etc., an extra few days goes a long way on making sure you don't create a problem. (nothing you didn't already know)

I think we may need to send Mrs. d00d a big stick to make sure you toe the line  [smiley=beatdeadhorse.gif]

Roger,
Come on I left out some of the "breakthrough" moments I went thru after surgery...... Nurse coming in the middle of night after surgery asking had I passed any water yet, and had this look in her eyes I didn't want to see. :o My reply was start bringing water, and after two pitchers I had something for her, and she said she would leave me alone.

Then there are the complications of the pain meds that "lock" you down for a few days and when you finally have that "breakthrough" moment oh what a relief it is. :'( [smiley=sweatdrop.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

/me sure would like to be a fly on the wall as Roger was reading that post. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Makes those staples insignificant now doesn't it? ;)

As of right now I can bear as much weight on new joint as I can tolerate. I have exercises to do every day (home nurse comes once a week to check blood because I'm on Coumadin, and I have a PT that comes to house 3 times a week). Have an appt w/surgeon in two weeks, as of now they want me to take it easy, do as much walking that I can tolerate (I have no problem going up and down steps) and work on getting strength back in my upper leg/buttocks. They don't want me to drive for 4 - 6 weeks, but I'm thinking if I keep progressing as I am that may get modified since the procedure was done on left leg and my vehicle is automatic.

I haven't mentioned anything about riding motorcycles to my surgeon. Don’t know what his take on this is going to be, and I'm going to be the one to decide when I have the strength to do that. This will definitely be down the road some after staples are removed, scar tissue has dissolved, and strength is back in my leg muscles.

My main three precautions now are keeping the left leg inline w/my body as much as possible (have to be careful of this getting in and out of bed), no bending further then 90 degrees at waist, and not over rotating my toes inward/outward of leg w/new joint (this can cause it to pop out of socket). Incision is healing well no signs of infection, excessive drainage. It's just shy of 12 inches long and has close to 30 staples in it. Normal precautions to watch for that as with any type of incision.. swelling, infection, excessive drainage, soreness, etc. etc.

I suck as a former medic in the USAF, I do just fine with people I don't know but the minute someone I know starts going over some surgery or trauma that involves pain or blood I'm done.

Wouldn't have made a good EMT or Fireman either, I stop at accidents and render first aid if I am right there when something happens.  Stopped one time when  bunch of kids were on the airport road near the terminal and I was dropping my wife off, they did something stupid and hit a guard rail ejecting 5 of them onto the road as the car hit and stopped.

I rendered assistance to one of the victims and others did as well.  I stayed with an unconscious teen until an EMT arrived and took over.  I remember looking to cross the road back to my car and then I woke up laying behind my car with an EMT over me asking if I was OK.

Other than my ego and a bit of roadrash on my forehead and nose where I face planted I was fine.  Wife said she looked up when a EMT yelled there's another one across the road by that car, only to see my fat a$$ laying there. ;D  Oh well, now I make sure I have my composure and don't stand too quickly around those events and I'm fine.  This happened years ago and I haven't repeated the fainting since.

Gary,
Welcome back!!!  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] Glad to see that everything went good and you're now on the mend.  Take it easy and don't rush it.  Winter is upon us, so the Pumpkin is comfy where it's at in the garage right now.   ::)  Get better and looking forward to the ride once you're ready.  8-)
Cheers [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif],

Glad you're back and posting.  Do what the doc's/nurses say and you'll be back riding when the weather changes back for the good.  My coworker got released yesterday for his replacement also and said it was nice to not have the joint pain.  Fortunately, his twin brother does not have the problem with his hip(s).
