Check Engine Light issues, NO CODES!
« on: September 12, 2015, 10:31:38 PM »

Tried looking for this but haven't seen this on the threads yet, so I thought I share and see if anyone else has experienced the same or might have some suggestions.  2001 Screaming Eagle Road Glide with 108,000 miles.

While riding today, noticed my check engine light come on.  Came to a stop and let engine return to "idle speed" and the light goes out.  Started back up again and upon reaching 5mph light comes back on and stays on no matter what speed I'm traveling and goes back out when stopped and at idle.

I can rev engine while stopped and light doesn't come on as long as bike is stopped.  Have checked for codes and none exist.  Oil level is where it should be and I have good oil pressure.  Just nagging me that the light is coming on and then back off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Matt

Have never experienced this problem, but it sounds like a loose connection in the circuit of possibly a grounding problem.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I'll take a look at all connections and see if that might be the problem.

I think all the idiot lights share a common ground, so I would suspect a ground at a individual component rather than the light circuit itself. Again, I'm far from expert........maybe someone with more quals will chime in!

If you have a tuner on the bike run it in data gather mode and it should capture what is going on.  or you can actively look and see what it shows before you shut it off depending on what your using for tuning.

Hey guys,

Seeing as how I don't have a tuner, I opted to try some of the other suggestions (looking for loose connections).  It payed off, noticed that one of the horn wires had come off and also that both the positive and negative battery terminal posts were a little loose.  Seemed as though there was a good connection but evidently not.

I reconnected the horn wire and tightened things up and it seems to have fixed the issue.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE SUGGESTIONS!

Got to ride all day today because of your help!!!
