Garage door module???
« on: September 13, 2015, 09:57:42 AM »

Hey all, just have a quick question for you. I have a 2010 CVO Ultra, and a few year ago I replaced the regular head lights and passing lamps with Day Makers all around. As a result, a part of the original wiring for the original lights was no longer in use. Kind of tucked in the inner fairing. This past winter I asked the builder to remove this extra wiring, so he did. And what came out was the old head light wiring ( just a short loom with 3 pugs )  and the garage door opener module. The thing is, it looks like the opener has no other plugs on it. Just the wires with plugs to the old head lights. So will these door openers work with the LED lights? What need to happen to make it work. Thanx for the info.

Don't have a auto door on my garage now, but will be installing next summer. So would like to start using this option. Cheers.

Yes it will work with ANY headlamp, has nothing to do with the actual headlamp. Just activated by headlamp modes (bright / dim). I put the Daymaker in my 09 SERG, all was good.

So I have to put that module back in?  It has no other plugs going to it except the old unused head light plugs.

So I have to put that module back in?  It has no other plugs going to it except the old unused head light plugs.

The attached diagram shows how the stock setup was wired.  The module requires a connection to the headlamp circuit to trigger the transmitter when you flip the high beam switch, and also a power connection to actually power the transmitter.  On that diagram you will notice there is a connection labeled cigar lighter.  That's where the power for the transmitter comes from.

The reason the guy could remove that harness from the bike was that it was just an added part for the headlamp Harley used stock, which had separate bulbs for high and low beam rather than the regular H4 single bulb normally used.  The LED headlamp just uses the old H4 connector that this small extra harness was plugged into.  Since the connection for the transmitter was made to the add-on harness that has now been removed, you will have to come up with a different method to wire everything; I'd suggest keeping the old harness and using part of it to make your connections.  The power lead to the cigar lighter will still be used, and then use the headlamp wires coming from the connector that goes to the transmitter to make your splices to the bike harness.
