Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument, Utah
« on: September 16, 2015, 01:16:29 AM »

Come join me on 15 mins of exciting riding on Scenic Byway, Highway 12 in Utah between Escalante, UT and Boulder, UT offering one of the most inspiring and possibly treacherous sections of road in Utah. We'll be traveling about 20 miles of the most awesome section that will be capstoned by a section with shear cliffs on right and left without any guard rails.

Yeah.. I really enjoyed it. Rode it 3 times this first week of September. First time it was late and dark.. not fun. Then north to south to visit Bryce Canyon St Pk. The last time, when I took the video it was around 6:30pm and I think I got some good lighting effects from the setting sun.

As Simon has shown with his photos and video's, southwestern Colorado, southern Utah, northern Arizona and northern New Mexico provides some of the most scenic rides in all of the country.  Truly spectacular views...

Thanks Simon!   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for sharing that, Simon.  You make the rest of us envious of such beautiful roads and landscapes.  I was stationed in Arizona many years ago and fell in love with Arizona and Utah immediately.  Had a Gold Wing back then and went everywhere I could when I had time off.  Thanks for the memories!   :2vrolijk_21:

How fast was I going? Ummm.. checking my rear for bubbles.

Mostly 10-15mph above posted limit. I think the highest posted speed is 50 and I may have hit 70 in some of the straightaway passing situations. In the curves I was usually around 10mph above post. It's amazingly hard to tell speed in these videos, can't feel the wind in your face.

Great video, Simon.  I enjoyed taking the ride with you.  Beautiful scenery....Utah is one of the 10 states I've yet to visit.  Gonna do that someday.

I just watched the video again, in 2X speed. You really need to slow down  :P

Have a great time! It's a great 18 miles and the road getting there is damn nice from either the north or the south, but especially the south.
